Things that ur happy about

Last year I had a lot of trouble with a flatmate who was giving me lots of grief, I was extremely nervous and anxious all the time even around my friends.

I'm happy to say that this year I am living with people who I've been mates with since the start of uni, there is 7 of us all together, it's a big house and the atmosphere is so much better then the uncomfortable one last year. This is the most relaxed I've ever felt in a long time, and I'm really really happy about it. Said flatmate has gone to brazil for 6 months so it's probably highly likely that I will never have to see him again, let alone put up with his bullshit.

I have a huge grin on my face as I'm typing this! :D

Glad to hear it. It's easy to say don't let it get to you, but difficult when you've got it day in, day out.

Enjoy uni - by the time I went, I was married with kids.

Jealous of what it must be like for 'normal' students! :)

Thanks,

I think what makes it even better is that I'm living with 3 people from our course and one of them is the brightest in our year and hopefully we'll just be supporting each other all the way instead of causing a load of stressful situations as I'm in my third year now and that is what I need!

Haha, can't imagine what it must have been like sitting amongst all the layabout students :P We have a guy like that in our course with a wife and 2 kids, was pretty surreal when he brought them in one day to watch one of his performances! :D

yes, one of the advantages of being a mature student was that all us oldies got together and swapped essays, so we had a handy selection of already sourced summaries for our revision, and we held study groups. I'm proud to say that I've been credited with getting 2 friends through their final exams, because I'm good at working out what the exam question is getting at. So I had one friend who'd learnt everything but didn't have a clue what part of the course the question related to, and the other one happened to mention she'd ignored 6 lines of the course material, I happened to explain to her that those 6 lines were pivotal to hang the entire course on, and lo and behold, those 6 lines formed the basis of our entire final year exam.

cue lots of relieved body language, and a very smug feral :)

Happy being a Dad whose son is off to Uni tomorrow. Proud as punch as no one in our family of my generation had that opportunity. Wish I was going with him! Few beers tonight with him then get his reg details sorted as hopefully he's coming to Glaso next year with me after being weaned on V and Reading with his pals. happy Days indeed!

We''ve just braved the wet and windy Welsh weather to take a free tour around Caerphilly Castle, with a very nice tour guide who was one of the castle custodians.

It was amazing, I felt really excited for some reason. The only thing disappointing was that there were no dungeons, and I've always had a memory of going around there when I was about 8 and seeing the dungeons.

I was falling behind at work recently due to a combination of overwhelming tiredness and apathy. I realised this weekend that this lack of progress was making me feel down. It also contributed to a fear of being criticised. So I did something about it and lashed into work today. I'm not yet out of the woods work wise, but am in a far better position than I was last week. This is making me happy today. Must get on top of it again so that I can relax more.

It really does make such a difference.

I did the Talisker distillery on Skye last month and our guide, a elderly retired distiller named Alasdair, was the greatest thing about it. Such passion and knowledge for malt whiskey. It was infectious. I was a little skeptical about the distillery trip before we went but it ended up being one of the highlights of our holiday. I actually wrote an email to the distillery to tell them what an asset and ambassador Alasdair was for their company, they wrote back something along the lines of "we know - the guys a total legend and we all love him, but its always nice to be told by the customers. We'll pass on your comments. I'm sure he'll be very happy to read them"

So, if anyone ever goes to the Talisker distillery, ask to get put on Alasdair's tour.

I went to Mexico a few years ago. Just before I went I read that it was best to seek a recommended guide when touring Chichen Itza. We sought one out and got a Mexican bloke who was really into his history. His enthusiasm was infectious and his knowledge superb. I'd definitely get a good guide in future when visiting places in future. We paid extra but believe we got our money's worth.

I'm a very happy bunny today as I've signed a deal to buy a new caravan (well a more youthful second hand one)

Very nice grumpy.

I went to stay at a Landmark Trust property two weeks ago. There was a low entrance and I thought I'd get my campervan under it. All was going well until I heard a crunch. I'd ripped off the roof / ventillation thingy. Not my brightest moment. Have now had to cover the hole with a sheet of clear perspex. It'll stop the rain but they'll be no ventillation through it.

I've spent a lot of time this last fortnight with my guitar. After a couple of years of struggling to motivate myself I feel like I'm really enjoying playing it, only ever stopping because my fingers are starting to get raw and painful. I'm delighted that I'm managing to devote a fair amount of time to it lately, and feel like I'm actually starting to progress and get a bit better. It's really satisfying.

Me and my mate have produced this song for my band, I thought I'd post it on here to see what you guys think of my music! Neil can delete this post if he wants if it's against the rules to post stuff like this on here. I've just been working on it all day yesterday and today and I'm really proud of it and I just thought it would be nice to get some feedback from people on here.

I know very little about music. The first single I bought was this - brace yourself;

I'm sorry, but I had to do that so that you know the extent of the expertise of music, before I comment. So don't raise your hopes up too much when I say I really liked that. In your favour is the fact that I don't say that very often. If I could alter it in any way, it would be for the vocal to go a little mad along with when the music goes mad (could be madder - the music that is). I wouldn't do it too often though as the vast majority of the vocal is really very good - as are what I could make out of the lyrics (I'm playing it through an inexpensive laptop so the clarity is not what it should be).

In reality that's a big yes from me on that single. Would I like to hear more? Yes I would. Please point me in the right direction, and I'd love to listen to more.

When I said I know very little about music earlier, it stands true, when taken proprtionately. However, the music now playing in this room is this - see below. I couldn't listen to it for ever, but having had a smoke you'll know it's rather appealing right now.

Can't see why anyone should want to delete a thread that's about musical creativity - that's what a lot of people here are interested in.

To be honest, it didn't float my boat, but that's not a reflection of your music, just that it's not a genre to my taste (I'm mainly into lyrical folk and blues).

Well done Black Hole and good luck. Do the band have many gigs lined up or are you mainly a studio band at present?

My good news that I'm happy about today is that I've agreed a deal to have a motor mover fitted to the new (well new to me but still 11 years old) caravan. It's more than double the weight of my old lightweight Lunar and I think I'll need some mechanical assistance to manoeuvre it into place.

Hey, no worries, I don't expect everyone to like what I do so no harm done, I'm definately not egotistical about this project, it could have been worse, I could have posted this in the 'Legends of Music' thread! :P

Yeah I have a gig in Kilburn on the 22nd of October which I have a band for and we're playing last which means we'll have to do an hour and a half set which I'm kind of nervous about, but I'll probably have written a load of new material by then because I can write songs pretty quickly.

And cheers for the kind words Yogurt On A Stick, a part of the reason why I posted this track on here is because Efestivals has been a little part of me for a while and I just thought it'd be interesting to see what you lot thought of my music, so cheers and I'll take your comments on board. This is not the official mix of the song as such and we do plan on spending more time making the songs sound good and tweaking stuff in the studio a.k.a my mates laptop in his bedroom :P So any critique will be taken on board :)

I've only been to Kilburn once, many, many years ago. I ended up in Biddy Mulligans and fell asleep sitting on top of a counter while they were serving. As did two of my brothers, who were sleeping next to me ( I observed this when waking up one moment, realising what was going on and deciding the best thing to do was to go back to sleep again). It was the climax of a wild night. I hope you send them wild on the 22nd October. I look forward to seeing you play Glastonbury.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
