Still carried a very strong anti-fascist sentiment though, and they just used the Spanish Civil War as an example of the evils of fascism.

I'd say that song is a lot more powerful in terms of message than RATM's song accusing every policeman on this planet of being a racist, whilst creating a slogan for angsty parent-hating teens.

(Not to discredit RATM's political views as they really know their shit, just that they have much more powerful songs than Killing In The Name.)

As for them actually playing Glastonbury...

In 2008 they did T, Reading and Leeds and Oxegen which leaves V, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Download as the festivals they could potentially do next year. I personally don't think they'll do any but there's always a possibility I suppose, especially if they're in the country anyway.

I know its slightly off topic but I wish as much effort that was used to get RATM the crimbo nbr 1 slot to maybe get people living rough somewhere to sleep and mental health issues sorted in this country before we are even bothered about who the feck is nbr 1 or not.

I know it was perceived as a noble cause but in general people are apathetic to real causes adn are using this to make it look like people are doing something.

Saying that though, nice to see that perveyor of drudge, simon cowell, miffed for crimbo

right rant over.

Forgot to say, Rage Against the Machine, best album to start with?

Never got into them, so only know a few tracks, but been meaning to have a blast since last year when they headlined Reading/Leeds(?).

Is it? How much have YOU given to charity this christmas? Have you asked Shelter whether they think it's a load of shite? Have you f**k. You just wanna moan and berate the efforts of others - whilst making zero effort for yourself.

Why is it a load of bollox? Is a band not allowed to have a legitimate political message without it being bollox? You being too young ti understand and it being bollox are NOT the same thing

Even though they wholeheartedly backed the campaign, YOU have decided their name has been taken in vain. You have displayed a level of stupidity matched only by ampersand in this thread so far.

A choice made when the options before you are limited is not a real choice.

What? One big push for 1 week and then everyone forgetting about it soon after?

The issues you raise are highly complex and intricate, and need sustained support. Getting a christmas no.1 involves just buying a single, then not needing to bother with it again. The two can't be related in any way shape or form. Raising £70,000 for charity is amazing considering they could have ignored charity completely and only talk about the campaign.

Have the masses generally put little effort into this though?

Go to Play.com or equivalent site, search for the track and pay 70p, download done.

All of a minutes time has been spent and about the cost of buying a bottle of water from a shop?

I don't understand people who are so against this in the fact that people could have done something better, as the same could be said for pretty much everything people do all day, every day and for all purchases that they make. Including reading and posting on these forums.

A charity has made some money out of this, which is more than can be said for most things we spend our money on. Plus Shelter have got the free advertising from all the press from it which could help further donations and made over £50k was it from the "campaign".

Kind of agree. Evil Empire is not great. Couple of good tracks on it.

Battle of Los Angeles on the other hand is f**king brilliant and in my opinion their best album.

(Renegades is worth a listen too ... some great covers, kick out the jams, renegades, Ghost of Tom Joad , Streetfighting man)
