Large Acts & their fans

That is to say U2 - because the forum is full of threads about them!

My question is though, not specific to just them.

I wonder what are the chances of die-hard fans of large acts announced before the next round of ticket sales, trying to buy tickets just to see their band. For example, take U2. Imagine you are a die-hard fan. For the price of a Glasto ticket, you get the chance to see your band in an unregulated seating environment, where the only limit to how close you can get is not ticket price, but simple pushing?

Could we not see people buying Glasto tickets, coming on say Friday night, pushing to the front, seeing said band, and then going home? After all, I suspect that there would be fans who've paid more for seats in worse spots that you could get at Glasto.

It'd be a shame if that happened, as it would deny festival fans from getting the chance to stay for the weekend.

Same applies to any other large bands they might announce before next sales.

I ventured onto the Glasto thread on the U2 forum, and some people on there are disgusted that U2 are playing, and that "proper" fans can't get tickets now they know they're playing because they've sold out. One of them said that Glasto should have kept 5000 tickets back to sell to U2 fans.

:P

Good God...obsessive fans are kinda scary! (not just U2 fans, I've always found it a bit weird that people follow individual bands all over the world). I love the fact that they are complaining about this being the only date in the UK/Ireland this year...they played 8 f*cking stadiums in the UK/Ireland this year, what did they expect, another UK/Ireland tour in the middle of their North American tour?...Jeez.

...actually, to be fair, looking through a bit of that thread over at u2.com, the boardies that have been around a while seem quite sensible, it's the other loopers I can't believe...

I think this might be my favourite: "I hope the crusties at the mudfest shower them in piss to be honest- that'll teach em."

If there's one thing that ever puts me off a band it's obsessive fans. I suppose they all wanted to be helicoptered in, have their own roped-off VIP area at the front of the stage with their own bar and wooden flooring down, then be helicoptered out and back home to Aylesbury or whatever pissant Home Counties town they spermed out from.
