Any chance of Orbital playing?

Saw them at Big Chill last month, and last night I got hold of a ticket at 5pm prior to the set at Brixton Academy.

Only other time I've seen them was at Glastonbury04.

The love going through Brixton Academy during "Belfast" was amazing!

I'm 28, first time i've felt young at a gig for a while! Everyone saying excuse me when they were going through the crowd etc. Made a change from when I was last there for Ian Brown in 07 and was just coked up twats being arseholes to each other!!

I saw them in Brighton earlier in the year, and it was great. I saw them in 2002 and 2004 too, so would be more than happy to have them back, Other Stage on the Sunday was perfect in 2004.

I wasn't happy that they dropped the William Hartnell bit at the start of Doctor? when I saw them in Brighton mind.

I'd rather have Faithless though!

I reckon they'll play and as others say they'll headline the Other Stage on the Sunday.

I wouldn't read too much into their comments about Glastonbury being too commercial these days, They headlined Godskitchens Global Gathering and Get Loaded in The Park and these two festivals are purely about the dollar.

They played up in Scotland - possibly T? - a couple of weeks after that Glasto 2004 gig.

And they've reformed. It's not a difficult concept ..

Its a failure of all the A-list dance acts of the 1990s, they rarely if ever surprised an audience with the unexpected. Orbital & Prodigy the worst criminals of all when it comes to this.

Irregular poster here. Afternoon folks.

I saw them play the set after Bjork in 1994 which for me was the defining moment of that year's festival. Having seen the reaction they also got this week in Sheffield, they should be a nailed on certainty for 2010.

They opened up with 'Out there somewhere' (nearly the full 20mins) which segued beautifully into 'Lush'.....they played a mixed set with older tracks slightly re-worked (lots of 808 by Paul Hartnoll) and even aired 'Chime/Crime' which I'd not heard live before.

Looking around it wasn't just nostalgia heads like me; plenty of younger folk seeing them for the first time, all smiling and dancing.

Longevity is simple - it's down to quality tunes, and knowing how to perform to ANY crowd, not just raves/clubs whatever. That's why they've outlasted most of their peers form 1990 onwards.

I only wish they'd drop the bloody belinda carlisle/bon jovi crap.

They played at T in the Park a few weeks later. Then they played some overseas dates. Then they played at Maida Vale or somewhere.

Saw them last night at Brixton, was a good night. Bit slow to start with but the crowd was right up for it by half way through. Tunes and sound were tight, overall Phil and Paul did indeed rock the place! A sweaty evening at the Academy.

I've seen them at Glasto, can't remember when it was. I'm sure they'd put a good show on again but perhaps some new (and good!) material is needed to draw the crowds they had back in the day.

The poor mans Faithless indeed, but for that fact alone they're damn good at what they do.

Wow. Maybe its only in Ireland that we get the same old same old. Though we did get Chime Crime at Electric Picnic three weeks ago.

The bit where the chaos of Out There Somewhere Part 1 ends and Part 2 begins (you know the simple keyboard melody that appears out of the darkness) is one of the finest moments in Orbital's whole career. Utter simplicity and timelessness.

that right there is the bit I'm not comfortable with. Kids should be finding their own music, having their own experiences, otherwise in 20 years time they'll be talking about a band they saw that was 20 years old when they saw them.

I'm made up I can go 'I saw Orbital in 94, and it was spectacular', it was mine, for me and my mates and it meant so much to me. My music, my life, and all that. I wasn't watching my parent's music or somebody from the late 70s in 94.

Neil , just typed in

Orbital , Glastonbury ,Other Stage, Last ever gig and plenty of references come up , to say they did announce it as their last ever.

I guess their manager wanted a new Ranger Rover or something so decided to tag on a few more

behind their back , signed the deals and they could not back out !

According to what eFestivals published at the time, they were announced on their own website as playing their last show at Glasto that year.
