this thread is showing the bias towards the 'very recent' - "both them times" - when it was his 2002 set on the Pyramid that he - and others - reputedly say was one of the largest crowds ever on the pyramid. 2009 and 2010 pale significantly in terms of crowd. sat for a bit of the 2002 set, but there were better things to see in '09 and '10 (altho whatever happened to Detroit Social Scene after i chose to catch them in '10? - not that they were that good, mind you)

No, no one stole it..I went to a fancy dress party as Rolf, we ended up in Snobs, and at the end of the night some random dude asked me if he could have my didgeridoo as he had just been to Glastonbury and saw Rolf's set...I said I had been too, we hugged, and I gave him the didgeridoo, the dude got in his taxi so happy.. My point was that how did Rolf fool us all...me and this dude were so in awe of him. It pisses me off now that Rolf sold us down the river!!

 

Hello Perks. My word, Snobs takes me back a bit. I read an article that they were moving and selling off the old faces that used to be on the wall in there (although I can't actually recall this) according to The Evening Mail. I rang them up in there new place to buy one of the heads as a momento for a friends 50th birthday. Turns out they sold the lot within 25 minutes.

 

As to your reference to Rolfe - yes he did sell us down the river, and worse than that too.

West Holts was frighteningly rammed when he played. Far too many people in that field.

It was quite roomy where I was (nearish the Brothers bar). I was dying a horrible hungover death sat in the shade of someone's chair with a pint and a pie spread out in front of me.

As for the man himself, I don't feel guilty for enjoying his sets at the time. I never knew what he was up to, although I never did like Two Little Boys.

The crowd was beyond immense. Beyond the norm for the time of day. The guy was idolised. He was a Glasto stalwart.

I'm very cross. Saw him in 98 (acoustic?) and Pyramid in 2010. I thought he was brilliant.

I can't trust my own judgement any more. I really thought he was a good person. He's a c**t.

Yeah I know his charges, but the orgy of visible public expressions of just how disgusted folk can be rings very strange after watching the likes of The Sun counting down to Charlotte Church's 16th.

What he did was shit, but he was also a belting showman and it's sad if we forget the good bits. Such a one dimensional view dooms everyone associated with him and his family to an extremely long sentence

The memory is tainted, but still special because of us. We don't need, nor deserve, to make penance too.

It's not ok really. But the brutal answer is that Michael Jackson's music was very good. Also he wasn't actually convicted, so people can tell themselves that he wasn't really a paedophile.

Hello Yog, Haven't been to the new snobs..can't bring myself to do it. Think I'd like to keep my hazy memories as they were. That's pretty mad about the faces though, I thought they were keeping them. Shame you couldn't get one.

Never understood the appeal of rolf. His own songs are infantile, his covers excruciatingly bad, his cartoons were traced and he was the biggest kiss arse to the establishment as you can get.

I was there at west holts and it was grim stuff. Worst of all was being trapped there in the middle of an ocean of camping chairs and grinning buffoons.

It was clear from the outset he was a wrong un and you people lapped it up.

I didn't really follow the case (as with most things) so wasn't aware of this. I wonder what can cause the police to not prosecute if there's an IT forensic trail showing that an offence has been committed? What could possibly be the reason(s)?

I was there at the West Holts one whichever year it was. I went thinking it might be a laugh. It was boiling hot and I watched the 2 songs I stayed for from amongst some clothes in a stall As it was packed and it took me ages to get out as they'd closed the field due to over-crowding.

Leaving aside the subsequent convictions, then even prior to this I have no idea why he was held in such regard at Glastonbury - the music wasn't good, it wasn't funny, it wasn't endearing - it was just cringeworthy and boring.
