Here’s to Glastonbury 2027

The fallow year has buggered up my carefully calculated neat plan. 2026 would have been my 20th Glastonbury Festival. My 20th year volunteering up at the park and my 60th birthday. I was probably going to walk away after that one. Now I'm committed to 2027. and the numbers are not quite so neat. oh well such is life

Yeah, opera's not really my thing either.  I recognise the skill, and it's more about the voice as an instrument than listening to a singer per se, but it does leave me a bit cold.  A ballet is next on the list, watched the Nutcracker at Christmas in the cinema as a broadcast from the national ballet, but never live.

And yep, love the Dome.  It's tight between there and Concorde as my fav venue in Brighton.

Never got ballet, or dance more generally, as an art form. A friend of mine (his other main cultural interest was the heaviest of metal. The sort of stuff that makes other metal fans go 'bit much') would regularly go to the ballet but I just didn't get it) Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the skill and choreography but it's never moved me in any way. But a couple of days after Glastonbury I was staying in Bath and went to see the play Grace Pervades. There's a short dance sequence in that, almost throw away, that genuinely moved me to tears. It was just like, ah, yep, I get it now. Couldn't even tell you if it was particularly 'good' dance. But man it got to me. Now I suppose in context it could've been the post Glastonbury glow talking. I hadn't really caught up on my sleep and was still thinking everyone and everything was wonderful. But maybe I like dance now?

It hurts right now, but I have a feeling a year off will be good for me.

Have been to 2 of the last three and loved every second of them! But my body and soul feel a little beaten up right now and whilst of course it is worth it without doubt, I am still quite content that this time next year I won't have to be either a walking zombie from being at the festival, or a miserable mess having not got a ticket and being riddled with fomo!

What does worry me a little is that I will be 40 come the next festival and having gone to my first Glasto when in my 20's, they are getting harder every single time I go.. Need to learn to relax a little when onsite and listen to my body rather than charging around trying to suck every last ounce of joy out of the weekend..

Try being in your 60s!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think The Park was born in 2007, so that would be a neat 20 years from in 2027! 🙂

It sure was. (My first year, only reason I remember).

sorry I can see the confusion if one subtracts 2007 from 2027 you get 20 but if you count all the years including 2007 you get 21

I imagine those first few years of volunteering at the park were quite relaxed?

sort of - 2007 was interesting - obviously it was a little damp. And almost all the team ( about 175 back then) had not really volunteered before and as the park hadn't existed there was no " this is the way we have always done it" there were plans but like all projects there were tons of unforeseen situations and there was a lot of thinking on feet and pragmatic decisions. it was a little chaotic but huge fun. By the time I was asked to become a supervisor in 2010 loads more had been worked out but there were always new challenges.  in those days the volunteers were doing everything, minor crowd control, traffic management, repairing gaps in Herras fencing, carting ped gate about and writing protocols on the fly as well as the actual volunteering job being fire stewards.  and the layout was really different. no BBC enclosure, no Rainbow dude, no GOS but we had the silent disco and the BBC introducing stage and the madness of the Rabbit hole. we now have 303 volunteers. Crowd control and Traffic management are done by outside centrally coordinated teams. Its not better or worse just different its constantly evolving and that's a good thing. I am happy to stand down now as a supervisor having played my little part -  time for someone else to have their fun in the sun - I can't hog it.  of the 12 original supervisors there are still3 or 4 still doing that role next year I think there will be 3 total newbies int he role and I am sure they will do an amazing job. I'll continue to volunteer int he park for 2027 and then see what happens

I'll be 41. A mere whippersnapper!

Same for next GF. Felt the strain this year but this thread has put things in perspective. I'm hoping to still be going in 20+ years if my health allows it. One of our group is 63 and he puts us all to shame.

I know you can easily adapt and listen to your body at Glasto, my problem is I burn the candle at both ends, even in normal life - I need to curb it.

Another concern is Glasto not being as enjoyable in 20 years. Hopefully this isn't the case. I had an absolute blast this year. Few moments were tough and I don't like the frequency of areas I want to access being 'closed off'. Shouldn't be the case for anyone attending the festival.

Hoping the younger crowd coming through value the place, ethos and atmosphere and keep those special little details alive. I'm sure people in the 90s worried about the same thing for today!

Those balloons need to f**k off though...

Deffo in a belated come down with the prospect of a 2 yr wait. Went to a leaving drink last night and a girl at work came over who was also there doing bar work and we were soon joined by 2 others (one who did yrs as lighting crew and another who used to volunteer in mid 00s) so was lovely to relive.

As for age, fingers crossed it remains so, but in my mid 50s I've felt really energised at Glastonbury the last cple of yrs. Admittedly felt the after-effects this yr (did my back in a bit) but I'd like to think there's a few yrs left in me yet (if not saying out until sunrise😀). I genuinely love the age range at the Festival and, however false it may be in reality, how I feel young(er) for the week. Saying that, I'll be a 58 yo grandparent if lucky enough to go in 2027. I now have some pipe dream of a 3 generation festival at some point!

I’ll be 60 for 2027 .. just the thought of it makes me quake

Exactly the same for me, 60 in 2027. I keep redoing the math's as that can't be right, but it is. It does feel like it will put even more pressure on ticket day (if possible) as it feels like I have a smaller number of Glastonbury's in front of me now, and I want to be at as many as possible.
