Emily also describes the booking of The 1975 for wanting a British Rock band, think she missed the memo on the British rock part.

They are British?  Rock?…..alternative rock more like, but still in the sub genre of Rock.

They are a pop band, they don't even decipher themselves away from pop lol. Definitely not Rock.

They have a wide range of genres amongst their catalogue, some rock I’d say.

But what is rock nowadays?  There’s certainly no British rock bands out there big enough to headline imo.
Obviously apart from Oasis, but they won’t headline.

That's why The 1975 did it lmao. I think Oasis will. When Oasis have done this tour, they as performing artists are finished at least on any larger scale. Why would you go and watch Liam solo or Noel solo after it. Both have offered plenty of opportunity to see their pwn solo catalogue of work as well. I think you'll see Knebworth next year followed by Man City Stadium dates coming after a Glastonbury date.

right now if this  upcoming album blew up and everything then its Wolf Alice. Sam Fender is the other for a rock act.

Here comes the genre police.

It's not genre police is it. @Andre91 is one of the biggest fans of them on here and even he says they are a pop band.

Carpenter launching another album so soon feels like a desire to keep the trajectory going. Will wait for better judgement, but think she's the new Katy Perry as a commercially play.

I wonder if she'll have another new move for the crowd to go wild over by then lol.

Fender is okay, but I raise you George Ezra then, I’d say he’s bigger with more bangers that the average audience recognise.  Not that I’m a fan mind.

The way you delight in your position as takedown critic and strongarm enforcer of such musical boundaries when it comes to The 1975 would suggest an element of genre police.

But you are, of course, entitled to your opinion and your expression of it.

That's a fairy extravagant description of something that is simply saying they are a pop band. It's not taking down the artist in anyway and describing them as a pop band does not in anyway demean them. If I had said there was something wrong with booking them that's different but I haven't. Neil Young is a folk/rock artist, Olivia is a pop star, Skepta is a rapper. That's not genre police, that's just how it is and there is nothing wrong in that.

What’s all this then?

The 1975? Yeah, definitely a pop band in my eyes. The best pop band going.

I'm being called out as genre police, forcing genre opinions on bands, belittling them and taking them down because I said The 1975 were a pop band and not a rock band.

You can kind of get into the weeds on this stuff imo about what act belongs to which genre in why and wherefore. Especially given the struggle rock has had to get new chart-toppers since the early 2010s means this is kind of as close as we're gonna get.

They’re a pop band like the Human League are a pop band. Or Tears For Fears. Or Busted or McFly. Or Duran Duran.

Doesn’t really matter, anyway. They play guitars, they write pop songs etc. They just headlined Glastonbury, that’s what matters 🥳

Indeed. I wanted someone's view on it that I knew was a big fan. I don't like them but I'm not belittling them. I've openly agreed they are big enough to do it but they did need new material in my opinion for it.

That there's not any British rock bands out there big enough to headline, doesn't make The 1975 a rock band.

Half their songs on Friday night could have easily been One Direction performing and no-one be any the wiser.

Take That's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit was more "rock" than pretty much their entire set. That cringey attempt at thrash metal (People?) being the only possible exception. Matty then back to pouting and his Heart Radio bops.

is he gonna put out a new record next year and sell out a stadium tour next year leading into 27? Thatll at least give more credence to Ezra getting a shot.

I'd take George Ezra all day long over Fender, but hes not a headliner as yet.

Bloody God no, that's the easiest way to be happy at not spending nearly £400 on a ticket.

    • Tell me more. Last Latitude we went to was '21 - my son was young & had a wagon so we snuck good beers in that way. I remember there being some Brooklyn IPA on sale which was tolerable - are you saying they don't sell anything other than Carlsberg now?! 😳
    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
