Any rock headliner that would benefit from a flashy stage? Can you think of anyone?

They had The Cure, The Killers & The Strokes (+ QOTSA but they're out) in their wish machine. Avril Lavigne would also be a good subheadliner or coheadliner on a weaker day. Iggy Pop and Rise Against are other 2 rock names from their wish machine.

The Cure and QOTSA are out. The Strokes are not touring for quite some time and The Killers have no EU dates at all, only a few in US.

Really wonder who can be the rock headliner

Avril has extended her touring for 2025 but so far no EU dates. Could she come back?

But to be fair it ‘s either Strokes, KoL or Mumford n Sons 😢 It’s Sziget after all.

Why are The Cure out? They didn't announce any shows yet. Furthermore, there were hints from October that they will announce a tour this year: "In October 2024, Smith said the Cure would release a follow-up album to Songs of a Lost World and tour in 2025, and would release a documentary in 2028". This is from their wikipedia page, the cited source being this article: https://www.stereogum.com/2283855/the-cure-tease-another-new-album-tour-and-documentary/news/

Because he also said this: "We were going to play festivals next year, but then I decided that we weren’t going to play anything next summer. The next time we go out on stage will be autumn next year."

CBA to find it, but Leaks definitely ruled them out.

I think  announcement of changes to some venues.   Maybe new beer sponsor.   The rock and roll thing is interesting.

my current thinking is that the arena will be expanded and allow live acts.  I can imagine them then using it during the day.   Remove the revolut for a larger main stage area.  Add a few more smaller stages (maybe more rock focused stages)

They wouldn’t make such a fuzz about a stage. Wording more like hints at one specific act (headliner) being announced rather than bunch of names in my opinion.

Yeah they will also bring out new names, but that is definitely not a surprise.

I mean who is surprised by a festival announcing new names?

I think the surprise refers to the stage, which is likely to be a Heineken Stage. (Hence the “beer cheer”)

If the global villiage is gone,  that is a shame.  One of my top 3 venues.

The world music made Sziget special and added to the variety that the festival sells itself on.  Hopefully it will be a redeveloped world music offering either spread across stages or as part of a new stage.

I’m wondering if they are making a bigger stage instead of the Revolut stage? One that extends into the Global Village area?

they would have to get rid of some trees, and that would be a very touchy subject on this island… but it could make sense to have Justice and Armin on that stage. Both feel small for current Revolut and not great for main stage sub during daylight.

I quite like the idea of a chevron type stage.  Do you think that would replace revolut or the arena?

Your guess is as good as mine but based off how many dj’s they’ve announced, I’d guess revolut. Then maybe a different stage in place of the global village that’s focused on live music

I liked global villiage as it had music and activities on early in the day.  I would be happy if they started main stage one act earlier round 2.30.     What would they replace global villiage with.  Maybe a workshop/wellness area.    Maybe they will bring back the luminarium.   As long as it’s not just more of the poor product advertisements that seem to be growing year on year.    Old spice car wash last year where the blues stage used to be

    • Plenty of good stuff this month. Very difficult choice, but I'm going with some of those I've listened to most (the sunny weather may also have been influential)...   1. The Coral - 388 2. Kurt Vile - Philadelphia's Been Good to Me 3. The Lemon Twigs - Look For Your Mind!   Others I've been enjoying... Laurie Anderson's live album, Broken Social Scene, Pigeon, The Black Keys, etc
    • Yesterday was was Primavera is all about and a reminder of why I come back every year. I saw 9 acts, very diverse in terms of genre and vibe, and most of them were great.  Highlights:   The Cure - have wanted to see them for years. Finally caught them and it was immaculate. Robert Smith's vocals at his age are incredible. The band sounded exactly like the albums which is impressive. 2.5 hours with basically no filler somehow.  Viagra Boys - what a front man! So much energy. Non stop moshing. Sound was great, vibe was top notch. Again 10/10 for me.  Rilo Kiley - basically what pipan said. Not a huge crowd but nice vibe, good sound. Different from the other acts I saw.   I also enjoyed the late night electronic stuff with Aurora Halal and KI/KI being fun. Caught some of Skrillex before Aurora Halal and it was cool in it's own way but not really my thing so we left.
