He was announced as a sub for 2020. Is he bigger now than then?

Basically, what I'm asking, is whether he'd be a sub or headliner at Sziget in 2025?

Headliner for sure. I think he can do a co headline with someone on the same day, but he is a headliner without doubt!

Melanie C (DJ), Ella Eyre (last played in 2015) and Rag n Bone Man playing Bittersweet festival in Poland 14-16. August.

I would put them down as quite likely candidates , Melanie C for Party Arena and Ella eyre & Rag. For A38

Rag has a great voice but I saw him live a few years ago and he had zero stage presence. Maybe it was just nerves as he'd only just become famous at that point.

Leaks said they were negotiating with them so there must be some possibility and new album out this year so will be a real fail if they've missed out.

So Boardmasters is 6-10th.

They’re at Oya on the 7th.

Way Out West is possibly on the 8th.

So they either do Boardmasters on the 6th and then immediately fly to Norway and do the gig on the 7th (is that even possible?), or they’re going back and forth, fly to the UK to do Boardmasters on the 9th and then fly back to Hungary and play on the 10th/11th at Sziget (so this also requires to fly throughout Europe and do the gig within 24 hours). Seems difficult to me.

The only hope is that Sziget and Boardmasters have the same owner and they figure it out somehow. Plus there are a few names Sziget and BM are sharing, so who knows. But at this point I’m not convinced.

The first two days of Boardmasters are just some smaller bands and DJs. The proper festival starts on Friday the 8th. They will do the Scandinavian festivals first and then fly to the UK, no chance for Sziget.

What about Smashing pumpkins there playing this festival in Norway around the same time ?

Acts like pumpkins and asap Ricky are choosing smaller festivals, so they can headline.

Personally it rules them out, rather than in.

So rule out Empire of the Sun and Snow patrol at summer well in Romania as well ? Since they’re headlining that ?

I can see Rocky co-headline, but I don't know about Smashing Pumpkins. Also I don't think Empire of the Sun or Snow Patrol are ruled out, they would be good for the sub-headliner spot, or Revolut headliner one.

Would love to see Faithless too!

The only 1 I can see playing is Snow Patrol, as there standing isn't very high. Playing an outdoor event 5 miles from me, with a 8k capacity. Previous headliners are James and Texas.

I wish sziget could produce a line up similar to 2015-2019 years. Every year was absolutely ace

Chin up, I know it's Blue Monday today but no need to go down that rabbit-hole!

I wish I could still buy a pint for less than a quid but times move on! 😉

Haha, funny thing , I was scrolling through the 2015 topic on the forum and lots of people were complaining about the line-up at the time.

For me, I would do anything to go back and be able to experience that line up.

My all time favourite line up from 2008:

And yet here I am still, much of Sziget has changed, including the music, but I almost always find things to like and I have found many bands because of festivals like Sziget.

These old posters are deceiving though. You see stuff like Imagine Dragons at 4pm. I really like Fidlar but I didn't know them back in 2016 when they played. When Dua Lipa was booked in 2017 (for the 2018 edition) she was on a small stage at Balaton Sound, she had 2 songs people knew and that was it, Sziget was among her first ever headliner spots ever (and some my friends were like 'who tf is Dua Lipa', why is she headlining, she was even smaller than Chappell Roan today - an now we look back at it and say "omg they had Dua Lipa".). I'm not saying they are as good as they used to be, but time does help these retrospective line ups a lot.

Yeah but £5 a pint is still a good pint. Double the price of a festival, with average lineups is below standard, is still a below average lineup. 😁

I’m not basing it on the headliners but the overall posters , including undercards.

2019 also had an incredibly strong undercard . Jungle and parcels on the same night in the A38 was a great combination. And similarly 1975 as headliner followed by Chvrches

I was there on the day Jamiroquai headlined, they were supporting their greatest hits album, so the set reflected that, it was a blast. Kaiser Chiefs subbed for them, I was not too familiar with them at the time, but became a big fan because of this show. And this was when Sziget still had a Jazz tent, caught a late nite set there with Rhoda Scott. It was a great day, and Aron Aszok was the beer then, .6 for 300 HUF and it was ice cold. Did not make the Iron Maiden show here, caught them at Sziget 2 years later.

I was on the island last year, for my first time in over a decade. There is still loads of fun, and a lot of variety. The Global Stage was a blast. I just think that the trend toward more pop and EDM has taken away some of the spark, maybe even soul, something you can only get at a live music event. I can see how amazing that Anyma experience might be, but for me I would go see that in an IMAX, not at a festival....

Sziget should book for what kids want today and not what legacy people like me think, so that is all well and good. Charli and Chappell, while pop, are massive and deliver the goods. Let's hope there's more live acts yet to be announced, things could still be great.

Judging by the comments from Sziget on Instagram, there will be more live acts coming in phase 2. And there are a lot of good acts around this summer. Let's just hope there's a correlation between the two!

Still can't work out who the rock/indie headline band will be now that QOTSA appear out.....

rooting for Vampire Weekend

Me too, but still think it would need to be as part of a co-headline deal. Maybe with Hozier or Sam Fender?

Or maybe someone more left field?

On a similar note, I see Biffy Clyro are headlining TRNSMT, would love for them to appear. Maybe do a co-headline with the Pumpkins, or Iggy Pop? After booking Papa Roach, I guess anything is possible!
