Lots of background developments are taking place in Portugal.

Today tv channel TVI reported that Sudoeste is essentially bankrupt: the brand was seized by a court. Sudoeste festival will most likely not happen this year. This may help to explain parts of the Alive lineup being much more geared towards a very young public (the essence of Sudoeste).

Then it also happens that the largest venue for concerts in Lisbon was just sold to Live Nation, as per news in CNN Portugal on 16 January. Not sure what Live Nation will do.

There must be all kinds of deals and negotiations going on.

I know nothing for sure, am not an insider, I am just trying to connect some of the dots from the information that has been made public. These issues may explain the delays on the available information on the Alive this year. Hopefully there will still be a better lineup.

Just yesterday I was reading about this:

Can you tell me what time it was on TV?

What is happening to Nos Alive has nothing to do with what happened to Sudoeste/SBSR

It is not Sudoeste that made the «decision» of the bands that would be available at the time of Nos Alive

As we can see, Mad Cool  has a similar line up of Nos Alive

heard from someone who is relayable that the sales are horrible

Honestly, that does not surprise me really. I can see O Rod day selling well but not the others.

I think Pearl Jam helped shift tickets for the other days as people would pay to see them and get a 2 or 3 day ticket if day tickets sold out. I can't see that happening with the current lineup.

There's more than enough on the lineup for me to feel like it is value for money, but I do think this is one of the weaker lineups they have put together.

The line-up this year doesn´t feel enough diverse. They have some good acts but mostly "tik tok artists". Also, I think international festival visitors might go to Mad Cool instead which has basically the same line up as Nos but with added bands that make the line up much more diverse and appealing to various ages.

Both are pretty mid compared to festivals outside the Iberian peninsula

We saw Bad Nerves last year, supporting The Hives, they were really good. They’ll bring the attitude and energy to the Heiney. As for the main stage, I just don’t know if there are enough legacy/self tribute acts still available to fill the gaps!

Have flights and accommodation all sorted for this since before line up was announced, and I'm still considering not going to this! So I can imagine if the sales are bad, even locals are not that bothered. Def worst line up I can remember or look up.... Must have been a Foo Fighters or big act that has pulled out. Surprised they didn't try get QOTSA, even if they only played 2 years ago.

But did they have a fall out coz they stopped their act early to accommodate Sam Smith? ....wouldnt be surprised if QOTSA told them where to go after that if it was true.

My friends and I have been to Mad Cool for the last 3 years. We have had a great time! Whilst I agree that their line up is usually pretty stacked (this year not so much for us personally) there’s no getting around that the new location is odd. They made some excellent, and much needed changes, for last year however it’s still fairly barren and lacks atmosphere. A small point but even the walk to the festival where the sun is setting and you hear the music thumping in the background, there is just something missing - perhaps it’s just too spread out so you just end up walking in a hurry through an odd industrial estate.   There have been a few times over the last couple of years where we have been disappointed by the sound quality and the Killers headline set last year just felt like it needed to be turned up a bit. So that being said, whilst I appreciate  the line up we are going to try NOS this year. (I haven’t been since 2015). I’m quietly hoping for a Mumford announcement for the middle night (I know I know I hear your groans from here) but let’s see! Looking forward to it!

A curio given they have a reputation of being among the louder big name acts. Their show at London O2 2 days before Mad Cool was crystal clear and punchy.

  • 2 weeks later...

That's 2 weeks since we got any new names, feels like they have given up a bit now.

Still looking forward to the festival but it's really like a couple of interesting/exciting/different acts to be added.

In my view, festivals in Portugal in general are very late in finalizing their line-up.

    • Do you think they'll release today's cupra pulse lineup?
    • I had a great time yesterday and came to the conclusion that everytime (or, more accurately, both times) I didn't have a great time at Primavera, it was water-related. Either there was too much of it (Thursday 2026) or there wasn't enough (Thursday 2022, week 1).
    • I sacrificed the first hour of the cure for Role model yesterday and oh man that was a good bet! That guy and his band are insanely good and an hour long only bangers!
