Because she almost got it and the other person had no idea?

 

Plenty of gameshows would give that as being right given how close it was.

I'm not against people having sympathy, you've invented that out of thin air. I'm just asking why it's a poorly done competition. It's very clearly explained that if you answer the question incorrectly, the other person wins, it has always been that way.

 

Which gameshows would have given an incorrect answer as right, out of interest? I can't think of any.

It was very close answer, not a completely incorrect one. Many would 'allow' the answer.

 

Not going to dig up clips (its not that big of a deal), but think almost all of the main ones accept answers slightly off like that?

I'd say University Challenge is one of the strictest and they allow it. Not sure what keywords are needed to find exact clips, but AI says this:

 

"University Challenge: While known for its strict rules, there have been instances where close answers were accepted, particularly if the contestant demonstrated a strong understanding of the subject matter."

 

I think we can both agree there was a strong understanding. Anyway, nonsense debate!

I mean Greg James literally says the words "I need it exact" so regardless of if AI thinks another show might have let it slide, the rules were always very clear and it's a quirk of the format that if you jump in with the wrong answer, you lose. Anyway, there you go, hope the winner enjoys her first glasto.

I don’t think it was scandalous but it was brutal, but they do always say the game is brutal & it is what it is. 
 

i remember in 2005 I was desperate to get through and win tickets and I was still trying on Friday morning when the place was flooded and it was raining so hard in Birmingham (where I was) that water was coming up through the road in literal fountains! 
 

i didn’t get through but the girl who did sounded so delighted, and she sounded like I would have sounded if it had been me, and although it wasn’t me, I was so happy for her.

 

I didn’t get that vibe off this and it made me sad. I really do hope Jo loves her first Glastonbury, why wouldn’t I? I really hope she loves it enough for it never to feel like too much trouble for her to register again!

last year the first competitions started around appearing at beginning of March .... ( apart from worthy cheddar ) then start to ramp up post resale .... fingers crossed we have some lucky winners again this year , lots of people helping each other out on this thread last year

Anyone won any cases of cans in the Brothers comp yet? Last year I won quite a few at the start of the competition which made it easier to keep up a steady stream of attempts each day (which eventually paid off). 

 

Only 5 pairs of tickets though this year 😓

Has anybody heard of any other competitions other than Brothers Cider?  I think Oxfam, are they doing the chocolate bar hunt this year?  Water Aid do one, I'm not sure if The Guardian still do one, my mate won with them a few years back.

Always thought the ticket competitions were a bit late. Get them out there so the lucky winners can enjoy the thrill of the build up to the festival.

I suspect demand would be greater post resale so the companies doing these competitions benefit more from having them later on

I’d advise not using the entries all in one go … a split over the week is likely more prudent when aiming for the tickets

Yes - a pair of tickets!

 

Was expecting the tickets to be a draw at the end of the competition, so was very surprised when the message popped up!

 

Just down to needing 3 tickets in the resale now...
