Do you know if that Israel vote is just an alignment to the US voting?

I thought Israel had been pro-Ukraine up until now

Yeah I don't know. Maybe they just see where things are going, they do have links to Russia who have become more of an influence in the region and that might even increase if US continues to withdraw, but then what about Russian links to Iran, or maybe that is part of it?

But probably just sticking close to US who are now their biggest and only ally, especially when ceasefire looks close to collapse and whatever demands Saudi Arabia want in any deal.

What a mess.

What the hell are you on about. I continue to be astonished that the likes of you have any interest in festivals like Glastonbury.

“If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew.”

"What do the Jews want? They want security and money. Throughout history the Jews have been Allah's most cowardly and avaricious creatures. If you look all over the world, you will find no one more miserly or greedy than they are."

I wonder if these little insights from Nasrallah made the cut in Kneecap’s little book of his favourite statements. They are as vile as he was. Apologists for antisemitism are antisemites.

I read somewhere that Ukraine has a 100% record of voting against Israel in UN resolutions, so it might have been something of a raised middle finger in response to that, though given that they have supported Ukraine in other recent votes it's probably more about appeasing the US and not wanting to upset Russia.

Germany are all f**k America and f**k Russia with their new guy. The fact the far right is getting 20% is kind of the norm now.

US, Russia, Israel, Sudan, North Korea, Belarus, Hungary...these guys....

If Iran aren't high on your list it's either an oversight or an issue.

Never a dull moment. So now Zelensky is off to meet Trump, the day after Starmer wows him with his 2.5%, and looks like there is a deal to be made where US gets it's some of those lovely minerals, but in return for what? Surely there has to be some sort of future security arrangement.

Maybe Trump is the master deal maker after all. It was only a few day ago he was calling Zelensky a dictator who started the war.

With that film I actually think they should add a corrective to the film, make it clear at the start about this boy, but still show it. But in the end Hamas are still a proscribed terrorist group here, so the makers should have realised that this could be a problem.

It’s tricky because it is important to make sure that the real life experiences of all people affected (the doc on the music festival, mainly shot on phones, was harrowing) are reflected honestly. This film may well have done that but you are right - the family circumstances of the main protagonist are relevant, they may even be sort of inevitable as crazyfool suggests. But the fact that the head cameraman had a social media account glorifying 7 October is relevant too: the BBC and Sky had big problems in the early days of the war finding doctors at the hospitals who didn’t have SM accounts that celebrated the events of that day. They had production control over the news though, they had to take the production company at its word. And they lied.

Israel/Palestine is such a sensitive, divisive conflict and the BBC has to navigate very very carefully to avoid accusations of bias.  Any documentary they put out on the subject has to stick to the facts, like the excellent one stevie linked to a couple of days ago.

In this case, framing it around a child makes it immediately emotive, then discovering the protagonist has links to Hamas, who for all we know may have scripted it, makes it look too much like Pallywood propaganda, and the BBC should have had nothing to do with it.

The counter to that is that a large part of the population of Gaza are kids and that is realistic . It’s pretty emotive anyway kids have been involved in atrocities from both sides . Watching it it seemed pretty fair and there were several instances where the population were clearly upset with hamas fighters being present and that wasn’t hidden .

There could be alot of sh*t coming up here as payments were made by the BBC. I've known Gaza charities get de-banked because they couldn't prove where the money was going.

Well it was an independent company that made the programme, may well be that BBC knew nothing about any connections to Hamas or payments.
