We were told before that The 1975 were booked to headline the 2021 festival with Dua Lipa and when it was cancelled both were invited back, so I don't think this is completely random.

Given that Dua was confirmed to headline the Other Stage for the cancelled 2020 event, it seems very unlikely she'd already have been lined up to top the whole shebang in 2021. Certainly it's not something I've ever heard before.

However I have heard - and have posted a few times before - that Flo was lined up to headline 2021. Without rehashing the details I heard this in August 2019 at another festival, from someone who'd worked in artist relations at Glastonbury a couple months prior. Flo was th only name they had (and specifically named 2021 rather than 2020), and I don't think they were bullshitting.

Think 1975 stepping in for Fred was the word, certainly makes sense to me.

Whether they were originally booked to sub or not, who knows.

I reckon Biffy was always the sub for Friday as it wouldn't have mattered whether it's Fred or The 1975 as they like crowd movement. I doubt Biffy were the sub for Sunday again, but Saturday wouldn't have been a big surprise. I don't think Olivia has been signed on that long though.

I can imagine tbf that 2021 was having to think differently given the lack of US acts available due to everything that went on in 2020.

Florence might've been a workable name for 2022 as well, thinking about it. She was around given she was at things like Mad Cool or the one-off Berlin Tempelhof festival and I don't think did a UK show that summer.

I'd bloody love Florence this year.

Dua said in an interview that she was asked in the fall of 2022 to headline in 2024.

Will be interesting to see if Florence maybe times things for 2027. If she doesnt have an album

out til late next year that could have potential

Concur. Florence is in the rarefied position where she is still a proven arena sell-out though - tickets for the last tour shifted fast, if I recall. She's probably "too" small to be given a first headline slot now - but as somebody who has already done it before, I can see a case being made for her getting the nod again if they are struggling to fill.

To the 1975 haters in here who obviously have no taste in great music. Listen up. Matty Healy and his band are going to blow away this festival in front of 120k gob smacked punters. They are without question the best live act this country has produced in the last 25 years. Miss their gig you will be missing out history in the making. There is nobody else to choose from, AC/DC past it, GNR past it, Arctic Monkeys national embarrassment god dam awful live. Unless Freddie Mercury rises from the grave this is the best band you will ever likely to see live.

Theyre not going to the fest. They just want to talk sh*t.

It did sell well but apparently not well enough for some. Still one of the great live performers right now. She floats in between pop and indie and has enough big songs that people know so its not a bad idea to get her on board again at some point. If Emily wants a 3 female headliner poster I think Florence would need to be on it so its not taken a certain way.

Florence remains in the conversation, but she's a call-up right now, not a frontrunner pick. She probably is one of a very few acts who hold that position - I think you could make a case that Stormzy is another - but at the same time, I don't see her getting another shot before the end of the decade.

You can only ever book what is in front of you before, but there seems to be enough veteran acts who would drop everything to come back and play again, coupled with possibly enough "first-time" headliners on both the younger and older side, to help swing a cat in there.

Indeed.

It's weird. Maiden would never do it because Dickinson has thrown enough mud over the years and the festival aren't hugely interested.

But I think Rod Smallwood - a man usually geared by money and not much else - would actually be keen as mustard. It's a massive Pyramid bump for them and their legacy.

As it is, the time has been and gone. If they were ever going to do it, they should have been there for The Legacy of the Beast run in 2019, with a few judicious changes. (Drop For the Greater Good of God and Sign of the Cross.)

    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
