The 1975

Saw them perform in my hometown around 12 years ago to what must've been a few hundred people, i've been a pretty casual fan since but even i'll admit it will be pretty cool watching them now headline the biggest stage and have no doubt they will smash it.

They’re clearly looking for this to be the set of their life, which for me is what headlining that special stage is all about. I hate it when acts just go through the motions and don't give it the gravitas it deserves.
Whilst I’d admit The 1975 aren’t my favourite band, I am looking forward to watching their set on iPlayer tonight.

From seeing Chocolate on a music channel at the start of 2013, to then seeing them pack out the FR tent at Leeds that August (from outside, we couldn’t get in), to seeing them headline R&L in 2019 and putting on the second best set I’ve ever seen, to seeing them replace RATM and stealing the weekend, through to seeing them At Their Very Best on the last album cycle to now seeing them headline Glasto. What a journey it’s been. Feels like such a triumph, tonight. Proud of the boyz. Let’s have a massive party!

Oh, absolutely. This is the peak of their career. More so than most, they understand the momentousness of the occasion.

Way too early to call this the peak of their career. If anything, this could just be the start of something even bigger.

I reckon they’re going to do an Eras style set…. no basis for this at all. Open with The City into Chocolate, pull into the casuals. Save Sex for the encore.

Would be brilliant, something like:

The City

Chocolate

Girls

Robbers

Love Me

Somebody Else

The Sound

Give Yourself A Try

Love It If We Made It

It's Not Living If It's Not With You

Me & You Together Song

If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)

I'm In Love With You

Happiness

About You

------------------------------------------

Cover with a Special Guest

People

Sex

Needs more Fallingforyou, so I feel justified for wearing my long-sleeve Fallingforyou tshirt all day.

    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
    • And all (or all but one) of the secret sets repeats though?
    • 1. Coming with my sister (our 4th Sziget together) 2. 3 days (Thursday-Saturday). Would rather do Tuesday-Thursday but not enough AL 😞 3. Wednesday evening  4. Apartment  5. FATM (will be my 10th Florence’s gig) 6. Parcels/Paris Paloma
    • Temperature was the main issue - luke warm at best
