Live gigs - Who you've seen were they good, bad etc.

Upstairs at Troxy is pretty good, feels nearer than something like Brixton or Hammersmith. Was wondering what they would do at the end as they’d blown all the big hits already

Oh it much nearer than either of those..

there is a huge bar area underneath before you reach the sound desk and then down to a relatively small standing floor..

did they have table seating upstairs.??

The front row faces the stage, then 3 rows of sideways tables, then standard seats facing the stage again. The tables actually look pretty good, especially if your group all get a table

Loved that Hot Chip gig last night, crowd was right up for it, as were the band. Loved the way they played the new song first, then almost went backwards through their discography. They're a singles band, anyway, with only this greatest hits compilation to flog. A joyous evening. Also my first visit to the Troxy and it's not bad. Bit big for me, but as 3000 caps go, I liked it.

Nice! Seeing her on Wednesday in Brighton, only started listening to her after her album a few months back but definitely looking forward to it.

Was at Blondshell last night at Brudenell. 

 

Great gig superb support from Westside Cowboy- having seen them at Manchester Psych Fest and enjoying them was real bonus seeing them again.

In Leeds Westside Cowboy were on at 8pm for 30 mins. Blondshell were on at 9 until around 10.15pm

You got anything else at the Brudenell in the pipeline? I had a spare for Mercury Rev the other week and couldn't find anyone to take it.

Edwyn Collins at the end of the month and Porridge Radio in December is only thing at the moment

Yeah, top evening at Chalk for Blondshell and Westside Cowboy. 

 

Both acts completely smashed it, brought a mate along who didn't know either act but left with Vinyls for both!

Turnover at Manchester Academy last night.

 

It really surprised me how big the fan base is that they have grown to academy sized venues, roughly 2000 in of a 2,600 sized venue.

 

I was expecting to rock up to a sparse venue in fairness when i think last year they played Gorrila (550 cap), and when i saw them in 2018 in a 150 cap venue.

 

It was a pretty chilled affair, 10 year anniversary of peripheral vision played exactly how it should, really clean sound and stopped a song half way through to fix a slight technical gremlin in the background.

 

After the album playback finished, there was roughly 4-5 songs left to be played at it went sparse super quick where by the last couple of songs which was a busy area to the side of the stage was just me and my partner and you could walk to 1st / 2nd row without risk of bumping into anyone.

 

But topline musically it was great although the album format led to a weird unweighted balance where the first half of the set was the majoritity's highlight and the crowd trickling the longer it went on.

The Orb - Glastonbury Abbey last night.

 

brilliant, just brilliant.

 

in fact the whole event was just brilliant.

 

Stereo MCs, Republica both fantastic.

 

the little stage set up in the Abbey ruins was just perfect for The Orb, the sound was great too.

 

not really sure what happened at the end tho… they got a couple of minutes into the intro of Little Fluffy Clouds then all of a sudden just stopped.. the end… not sure if they ran over and the plug was literally pulled on them…

 

anyways…. Really fantastic night 😀

Interesting... they're playing Peak Cavern next summer. I could be tempted.

The hat in question is a 2017 Rugby League World Cup one. I got several from the then-in-laws, who were Australian, as well as a very nice gillet.

Very rough that, possibly as they were there for the taking.

 

At the same time, I'd argue they were there for the taking in 2022 and we woofed it in the semis - again.

 

Optimistic about the Ashes, if only because I don't think Walters will engineer that team like Mal did. But at the same time, England aren't exactly looking robustly blessed like they were a decade ago.

 

Hopeful I'll get over to Australia next year for the RLWC. We'll see.
