Shock, horrify, outrage 😆 only if you haven't a clue what the standing charge is. Dude's going to have a heart attack if someone tells him what his line rental is without making a phone call or using the internet.

Show some empathy for once, it’s not nice to laugh at others difficulties.

Show some empathy and don’t be asshole all the time.

Mummy and Daddy probably pay his bills that's the only explanation for not knowing what the standing charge is. I refuse to accept anyone is that stupid.

Or double down on being an asshole. Good choice.

Well this won’t go wrong at all.

Talking of deep shit... Brexit: Britain’s ‘uncontrolled’ sewage dumps may breach trade deal, warns EU | The Independent

A saner group of people might think that starting a trade war with the EU at a time of out-of-control inflation is an idiotic idea. But that kinda nihilistic thinking wouldn't be a surprise.

I swear we spent a long time last year suggesting that Boris might call a snap election.

Though presumably some others could suggest that as there's very little time to resolve any one of the hundreds of problems that are awaiting Truss, this may well be fired under "fuck around and find out" territory.

If you are literally using no gas at all (like in the example above) is it even possible to disconnect so you don't have to pay the standing charge? Just curious, not something I want to try.

Looks like you can:

So the guy above could of saved himself some money by using google for 30 seconds.

I'm curious about this as well. Clearly the standing charge isn't that well publicised as a concept if it can slip under the radar as discussed in ever increasingly extreme fashion on the last few pages, and does feel like another sign of why people may not be happy with energy companies if you legitimately can be billed for gas you don't use.

Wes Streeting is claiming in the telegraph today the Tories have capped the number of medical students this year so there will be no doctors coming through during the next labour government.

Not everyone will think like that and possibly be feeling so anxious about things that they don’t realise there are these options available to them. I imagine some people will be so worried/stressed that they aren’t able to work out what to do.

Our standing charge pisses me off as we pay extra as we have prepayment meters. They were in when we moved in and Bulb wanted 70 quid each to go onto smart meters and a 250 deposit each meter as security.

I will find a link but I read that people on prepayment pay on average around 100 quid more a year on each supply. I will be going back to Ecotricity who just charge a flat rate across the board. I should have stuck with them in the first place but pennies do count.

Signed

Fucked off in Manchester.

    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
    • Dug into Milkweed some more and this was a brilliant suggestion. Thank you 🙂   This will come as no surprise, but I have been told that there are some band substitutions to come.
    • Yeah, I think it's important to differentiate between a stage that's just a platform for the artist to walk on (which can be assembled fairly quickly and without too much difficulty), and the custom staging that you get in big productions where there's a whole world underneath.   Using the Eras tour as an example the stage extending out into the stadium field has all sorts - lifts that go up or down - down most importantly as this allows performers to enter or to leave the stage as needed. There's passageways to get from one part of the stage to another. There's what are effectively dressing rooms set aside for costume changes. There's spare instruments (and techs to look after them) so if something goes wrong above they can be swapped out in the space of seconds. There's even a track and dolly system running the full length of the stage so that Taylor can be moved from one end to the other faster than she'd be able to walk.   I don't know the specifics of the Madonna tour to the same degree but my understanding is that a lot of the same techniques are used.
