When Whitty made his 25,000 deaths comment the other day (I am presuming he thinks this is where it will land).

I don’t think he was saying it would be that high. Just that flu has recently been that high without anyone batting an eyelid.

And my point is we can fix that with mandating flu vaccines for the whole population plus restricting mass gatherings and maybe even implementing social distancing over winter (and masks obviously but they can be permanent without any negative issues) That would make the case vaccine passports more clear to me

At least I'm letting myself be dragged along by this evolution and accept it as inevitable!

There's no more evolution if humanity is killed off by covid which you want to help by not doing what can be donesoto llimit its spread.

I fully expect to see mass gatherings restricted in winter  and flu vaccines made mandatory on the vaccine passport because we can stop another 25k deaths that way too. That would prove its just about preventing deaths and illness.

Why would the UK suddenly make flu jabs been manditory see your bullshtting infection is spreading.

I think that is a key point.  I would like to hear from Whitty on how he feels having the passports will effect the end death toll.

Deaths would be far higher without vaccine passports because covid would be spreading indoors without measures to restrict its spread.

The leaflet is going to be withdrawn

(I guess travellers are a problem in that area) httpsps://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/apr/02/labour-destroy-local-election-leaflet-anti-travellers-pledge?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

it's outright discrimination. If it had been against any other community she would be gone already.

If theysaid we will spend local money to provide more facilities for travellers there would be complaints of a different kind.

or just don't have anything about travellers on your leaflet.

If it's a significant local issue and the leaflet doesn't touch on local issues people will vote for the party saying they'll address local issues.

ok...well so be it. It just further incites racial hatred.

Just looked up this Charlotte Nichols as never heard of her...she's from the left of the party and supported Long Bailey for leadership...but is being attacked on social media and called centrist which she isn't...but she is jewish...

Would you be as forgiving if this was on a Corbyn flyer?

Not being forgiving was trying to give it some context I'm sure it's on a flyer for the locals cos it's a local issue.rather than a random opportunity to have a pop.

So Starmer spent yesterday at the same Christian church May visited four years ago, that homophobic one that supports conversion therapy. Oh dear.

Faux pas after faux pas, real the thick of it stuff. Is this what competence looks like?

    • Yeah I did spot that AXS had more available for the O2 shows Muse are doing, though I think that comes with the territory of AXS now being the venue's primary ticket selling platform.    My instinct remains they'll probably still play to a big crowd on the night - sales were similarly slow in 2023 but videos of those gigs showed the venue looking pretty much full. Equally it probably would be sold out if the pricing was even just slightly less ridiculous. Shave up to £50 off some of these categories and I think that would've got people to go with it.
    • Some are definitely already there with that and with another round of inflation looking like it's on the way, it certainly locks that in. And I say that as someone who also isn't willing to break the £100 marker.
    • A lot of people have said this online but does the Marvel world need new cities to play with? New York seems to be a target of all the villains to the point where you wonder why anyone in that world still lives there. Much as you can accuse me of overthinking it I guess haha.    I do agree that The Void is a compellingly different villain in many respects given the superpower is trapping people in their most traumatic memories. Shame in some respects the film came out in the post-Endgame funk Marvel seems stuck in and a lot of people missed out on it.    Speaking of, I rewatched Infinity War the other day. First time I think I've seen it since seeing it in the cinema on its opening day. Holds up pretty well imo - I have issues sometimes with ensemble casts and jumping between 4/5 storylines but it felt this one got the balance right and also properly explored Thanos. So it was good.
    • I didn't think I'd ever watched a Coben adaptation or read one of the original books, though turns out I did - I watched one called The Stranger back in 2020. Clearly didn't stick long in my memory as until researching it, I didn't know that was one of his. Queens Gambit or Black Mirror, it was not.    But clearly it's popular tripe in some respect if Netflix is going yes to everything he has to offer and are apparently about to start trying his most popular individual character, as seen below:   https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/jul/30/how-harlan-coben-became-the-king-of-potboiler-tv   Plus hey. Sometimes people get a kick from watching something and deriding it as crap. Don't let this internet rando stop you haha
