Locals Tickets

I have some shady experience with locals...

If you create a new registration using a local address and buy local tickets with that then you are 100% fine.

DO NOT edit your address as it will get rejected on sale day if you edit after locals were announced...

This is what my friend did. New email address and different photo, but same name (which is not an anonymous one like John Smith) and card will be linked to old address.

But my friend is anxious about getting caught and is worried that if that happened he would be barred from going, and potentially get the somebodies black-listed too.

Add to that, the bad karma, and I think he will likely not bother.  My friend is the kind of person who sweats bullets if he doesn't have a train ticket, and even if he got a locals ticket, would likely feel anxious all the way until June!

Like I say, done this for four years.... No issues. One time the stewards asked me to recite my address on entrance and I just said it wasn't my permanent address. They can ask for ID but your identity isn't intrinsically linked to your address so admission is absolutely fine.

In terms of the karma, I don't see a huge issue, I've never known a genuine local not get a ticket (live in somerset, just outside of catchment) so it's not like he's taking someone else's.

I'd go for it...

They don't print photos on locals' tickets for Sunday entry. A friend got in using one that someone she knew in Glastonbury genuinely couldn't use in 2013 (we had an epic fail on tickets that year). No-one checked on the gate - couldn't be arsed by then ;-)

Yes they do now we submit photos and registration in the same way as everyone else, probably as a result of misuse over the years.

Local tickets, whether weekend or just Sunday, are now oversubscribed just like regular tickets.  They may take longer to go but they do.  I know plenty of genuine locals who have missed out so, yes, it is like he's taking someone else's.

Add to that the fact that abuse of the system puts it at risk for the folks who really do have a right, and it's most def all round bad Karma.

Absolutely agree with you, Sunday tickets sold much slower this year I think they were available until April/May? Could have been a bit earlier but I was surprised how long they were available,  but the scramble for weekend tickets left many local people frustrated (much like the main sale)

I think quite rightly the registration and sale process for local weekend/Sunday tickets is as tight as the main sale.

Just thought I'd give you an update Wilem, as the internet Locals tickets went on sale on Tuesday, and the phone ones today.

Internet sold out in around 25 minutes, phone tickets sold out today too.  I've already seen a number of comments on Facebook / internet from locals who missed out already this evening.  Additionally, comments about how last year was the first time to sell out, and that locals could always rely on this method to get a ticket but no more.  No specific comments on sell-out time for the phone, other than it was faster than last year.

Plenty of speculation that it's down to people outside the official catchment area "gaming" the system, with no small degree of resentment from some people.

So, contrary to your comment, I think it's pretty safe to say that yes, you did deprive a genuine local of getting a ticket if you used this method this year.

And, with others seeing you "winning" at the ticket lottery by doing this (for example ...

Presumably you'd have to know someone local to have a local address otherwise your tickets are going to end up sent to a strangers house!  Maybe locals should need ID with their tickets.  It's unfair to those who are genuine, but it could help I guess

I actually know quite a few people that live in the area and they have told me that they are pissed off with the tix situation .....a friend of mine who's mum used to steward in the village and hence got a tix said that that all changed a little while back and her and others were only told a few weeks before the festival that they were not going to be getting any tix........she told me that there were quite a few locals that that happened to ...

I read a quote from Michael a few years back that no local who wanted to go to the festival would be deprived of a ticket. That may have well been 'one of Michael's quotes' but it's certainly been harder to get a ticket in the last couple of years although maybe they've just reduced the local allocation?

This was posted earlier on Facebook.....

" Martyn Cook Had a nightmare since Monday, was kicked out umpteen times on Monday's sale, kept on saying we were not local(have lived in the local catchment area for over 20 years) only to find out through the festival office that my property had been flagged up as having multiple registrations (over 50) several phone calls and multiple emails later with digital copy's of driving licences being sent to the festival to prove residency, we were given the ok at 18.30 last night. Local tickets are there for people who have disruption before, during and after the festival as a thank you, and we still pay for them. Tickets were purchased this morning. "

An absolute shambles of a system if the above can happen. It needs investigating and stopping. Local tickets should be local tickets - end of. Tickets should only be delivered to the local address and proof of address should be verified ie scanned driving licencee/passport sent to SeeTickets presale.

Those of you taking advantage of this,  I just hope karma catches up with you.....and deals with you accordingly. :fuckyou:

Unfortunately a lot of the abuse is likely down to the 'not quite local enough' locals who have friends living in the catchment area.  Frome is just outside (we get Sunday tickets only....) but I know plenty of folks who register against relatives or friends addresses a few miles closer.  They simply then pick the ticket up when it arrives.  Not everyone has a passport or driving licence and it's pretty simple to mock up a utility bill etc so requesting evidence in such ways is always flawed.  I'd guess the Festival has let this one go until now because there's no proof of the scale of the problem and therefore not worth the cost of fixing.

I'm cautious though of the glut of complaints suggesting the problem is now worse.  That could be a symptom of the sale now being focused into 10 minutes rather than the previous ballot process that took weeks to complete.

Whatever, there's something here that needs fixed.

Well, in the end my friend didn't get tickets. They logged on about half an hour after the sale opened, as much out of curiosity and still not set on actually going through with the purchase, but  despite entering details, they were told 'no tickets available at this time' and the sale ended soon after.

I'd like to clarify that I didn't actually buy my ticket in local sales - I bought mine in October.

And I'm more than happy to hold my hand up and say that I was wrong, particularly in the last two years in regards to local sales being abused and the impact this has.

I can only assume they'll go back to not publicising the information online - phone only sales and publicised in the newspaper. That seems like a much more genuine approach to me.

To confuse things further there was at least one 'additional alternative' phone number to use on Thursday. I know loads of people (myself included) that were ringing the published phone number to get an engaged tone. Someone posted on twitter that if you changed the last digit you got through to a holding page. This alternative number worked for everyone of my friends that still needed tickets.

NB -  we all genuinely live within the catchment area.

Also Bristol is a lot nicer than Shepton :P

I'm similarly non-specific about my location which is north of Brizzle.

I used to live in Wells and one of my pals who had grown up there used quite a derogatory name about Shepton in that Springfield/Shelbyville type of way.

Mind you, I went to a couple of quite entertaining (and surreal) gigs at the Showering Pavilion.

I've only lived in Shepton for a year, but my better half is born and bred shepton / Shelbyville :-)
