I'd be ok with Bruce playing the Thursday. for the last night I want someone whos not going to play 2 hours of album tracks first before getting to 15 minutes of songs people know.

I think this is the main reason not to expect Springsteen at RW this year. The River isn't exactly catering a lot with the average RW crowd who want hit-filled headliners.

Also I'm still certain that Florence is the main headliner on Sunday. Add a strong subheadliner like Ellie Goulding/The National and a popular party act like Macklemore (playing at RW's sister festival the day before) and you've got a mostly satisfied crowd.

Personally I hope it's not Springsteen.  Mates who were fans and saw him at Glastonbury said it was pretty dull.  Just doesn't do it for me.

Saw him 4 times and each time was fantastic. I've even never seen a better live performer except Pearl Jam.

I just never got BS.  I was really hoping PJ rumour was correct.  Been years since I've seen them as they never play Scotland

Yep, we'll have news this month with the PJ announcement, as Jeff Ament said on Twitter.

Seen him 3 times now and they were the 3 best gigs I've ever been to! Think it's unlikely he'll end up at RW but it would make for a great bit of variety on the bill (bit like Kravitz last year). I also expect that if he did end up doing festivals it would be a huge set. Seen him do in excess of 3 hours before so 2 hours of The River and 1 hour greatest hits isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination.

That being said, whats with the lack of acts? Was amazed they didn't announce anything today. Really hoping for a substantial announcement this time next week. Also saw a rumour that Radiohead could be dropping their new album this month which is promising.

Springsteen is the best live performer in the world IMO. As far as possible from dull.

Him doing the River is a bit of a problem, although maybe for one festival show he could do a shortened River set (album still includes big songs like title track, Hungry Heart, Out in the Street, etc), like do only 10-12 River tracks instead of the whole 20, and fill the rest with hits.

I dunno how well he transfers to festivals, and I admit the Glasto setlist looks a bit weak, particularly the middle section. But anyway his performance abilities are undeniable. His usual 3+ hours marathon shows, career-spanning, varied, full of audience requests, surprises, stage diving, I don't see anyone else matching those. The energy is unmatched and I've seen lots of bands 30 years younger who are nowhere near his ability to control a crowd, his energies and courage on stage.

Just an example, here's a completely spontaneous rendition of 'You Never Can Tell' by request. They didn't play it since the 70's. You can see him find the key and teach the other band members in the beginning of the song, than decides who solos when, etc. Who else (of the big names at least) does stuff like that live?

Also, I'm a 100% sure Springsteen can easily deliver a great festival set full of singalongs and great stuff. His Glasto set was a bit baffling with song choices, particularly missing '10th Avenue Freeze Out', 'Jungleland', 'Bobby Jean' and other favorites, and of course 'Hungry Heart' and 'Born in the USA'. All of these tracks were played a bunch of times at that tour, so it's completely beyond me why he would axe them from the biggest festival set...

Totally agreed ! I saw him at the festival Vieilles Charrues 2008 (or maybe 2007), and that was a 3hours incredible festival set with a festival atmosphere !

Same here. Saw him at Hard Rock Calling in 2013 and was 3 hours of beautiful madness. I think the glasto set probably suffered from being around the time of Magic and Working On A Dream, probably his weakest 2 albums.

Still doubtful he'd play RW regardless. Heres hoping for something substantial on Friday.

I think about new names for friday. Eurockéennes say that they will have announce mi-january. They are stil waiting for names, and it could be very possible that they will be a lot of same artists in the two festivals. And a big headline, so it's possible to have Springsteen or Pearl Jam or Radiohead I think

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
