He is not a miracle worker and his true test will be the quality of players he can attract in the summer. I think there's very few Liverpool players who would be moving up the ladder if they left.

Should he say he doesn't think they can win it? I think it's unlikely, but due to the fact football is a low scoring game, there's potential for a fairly mediocre team to put together a run of 1-0 games and close a gap, particularly without any outstanding rivals and potentially a low points title for the winner.

I suspect he will have more clout than Rodgers because he joins Liverpool with far more pedigree and I think his name will attract players.

Talking of Rodgers, I've just read in the BBC gossip that Rodgers says he didn't want Balotelli.

Tho that's probably not as much of a surprise to people than the surprise of Liverpool signing him in the first place.

I've no idea if it's true or not, but I read something the other day that was saying that Klopp wants Mario back at Anfield.

I know LFC a desperate for goals from somewhere (any half decent striker on the pitch yesterday probably sees LFC picking up 3 points), but to think bringing Mario back into the fold could potentially do that is utter lunacy. They need to just put their hands in their pockets and take a chance on a striker thats available in the January window.

they've supposedly had a £9M bid for Shane Long turned down in the last few days.

Shane Long is never going to be a 'top top' striker, but he'd bring much more benefit to Liverpool than non-super Mario.

I think Long would be a big mistake and would be another Adam, Lambert, Downing etc who they were looking to get rid of almost as soon as they arrived.

Hmmm, not sure about that.

I see Long as a similar player to Ings, whoi was doing much better at Liverpool than I thought he would.

I'd also say that Long was going thru a bit of a purple patch at the mo, where he's perhaps looking the best he's done at any point in his career.

I don't think he'd be too likely to get much game time after the summer as presumably they'd want something better, but Long has made a decent career from being a decent back-up option, so i'm not sure he'd be quite the temporary fix you're thinking. I wouldn't be too surprised if Klopp kept Long in preference to Benteke &/or Sturridge.

Why? Long shot obviously but everyone else is so shit, any team in the top 5 or 6 can put a run together and win it. And they still have the best defence in the league.

Looks like Liverpool just need another 3 wins or so and they'll be safe.

I think it would be odd for him to say they cant win it.  7 points is very doable, especially when you play the 2 teams who will likely compete for the title.  On current form it doesnt seem likely but neither Arsenal or City are setting the world on fire.

The Europe pisspot is a big distraction. Hope he sends the kids for that. One things for certain, he'll be out of a job if he doesn't make some sort of a charge for the league. Hanging about 5th and 6th all season and getting knocked out of the Champions League early after spending £250m is a great way to get sacked.

Short-term fix by the sound of it. He's got a good reputation in Italy, did extremely well in his last job at Udinese where they finished in the European places 3 seasons on the bounce. Has also developed the careers of several players (Sanchez, Cuadrado, Di Natale)

Most recently he's been working as the main tactician for the Pozzo family's three clubs (Udinese, Granada, and Watford - who we play tonight). He'll be in charge of the tactics and coaching the team, whilst Curtis will continue to fulfill the media responsibilities. I really don't think that many managers would have come here with our limited budget and on a short term deal, hopefully he has a few transfer targets lined up - I thought it was strange how we were being linked with so many Italian based players lately.

Massive game for us tonight, I can already hear the media sharpening their knives...
