You're far too optimistic. Of the four you name, I'd suggest that their previous generation equivalents (say Cole, Ferdinand, Beckham, Owen) had greater potential at the same stage in their careers. Each went on to be very good players, but England got no where near winning a major tournament with them.

The current England team aren't a bad side, but they're not going to be winning anything anytime soon.

I understand what you are saying. But surely you can draw comparisons with past and current supposed world class players and their backgrounds - even if you keep it to the premier league. So for example I believe that Ox has the abilities to compete at a similar level to Hazard - (who as premier league player of the year must be nearest to that world class category than anyone).

Well I would put Aguero ahead of Hazard. However I don't see much comparison inability between Hazard and Ox. In terms of age there is only 2 years difference between them. However at a younger age than the ox is now, Hazard was 2 times French player of the year and one of the highest rated (not just in his own country) young player in the world.

I wonder if I can get away with watching three matches tomorrow? I've had man-flu all week, so it might be pretty bad asgain tomorrow (luckily, the missus doesn't read this thread ).

I could enjoy all of Everton/Chelsea, Arsenal/Stoke, and Utd/Liverpool.

 

The last of these should be interesting, as I reckon it'll give some sort of marker of where the teams are in relation to each other for the season - tho not necessarily with the result of the match; how each team performs outside of the actual score means something too.

I can't see him signing anything that will stop his dream move, so there's likely to be a release clause in there and I can't see him agreeing to a high figure.

 

It is good news for Utd tho. Any fee is better than no fee.

I think De Gea (or more likely his agent) is being clever here. As Neil says, I'm sure there will be a release clause for next summer. More importantly for the player, there's no rift between him and LVG, allowing De Gea to be back playing regularly before the Euros.

How much is Dave on a week at the mo? What will it cost Utd over the season to bump him up to 200k a week? Would it be reasonable to think they would want to see some of that back in an slight increase to the agreed fee? I'm sure the release clause put in place will aim to protect Urd as well as Dave

but the number of years means fuck all if there's a release clause.

 

Given all that's known about DDG's want to return to Spain for both footie and personal reasons, I think it's impossible that the contract hasn't been written in such a way to give him that move next summer.

 

Both DDG and Utd can get something worthwhile out of this. It's all a no-brainer, really.

I agree the release clause must be in there somewhere. Obviously the pay rise must be enough to compensate not getting the bosman boost. I dont think its guaranteed that he will join Madrid next summer. The whole leaving it to the last day and then the move collapsing was a little odd. There may be some resentment on De geas side to Madrid, or maybe they had cold feet over the player.

No doubt, but there are only 2 clubs there who could afford/attract him, so there are not huge options. According to the radio today there was a report in Marca which stated the Real Madrid fans were not that bothered about signing him. Considering he hasnt played much in the later stages of the champions league and isnt the national keeper, I suspect his reputation in the UK, may not be matched elsewhere.

I agree. Think Casillas will play until at least 2016.

 

Dunno, all depends how Casillas does at Porto - even then the step down to Portuguese football must surely be a factor. The end of his time at Madrid damaged his reputation a bit too. 

 

All I'm saying is, by arguing with Van Gaal and sitting on the bench for six months, De Gea wasn't going to force his away in ahead of Casillas. By playing well for United, he may well do.
