Who's been To Wally's Bar?

Has anyone here spent any time at this bar before? It's the Shangri La Crew Bar located in their crew camping field . It looks smashing from the pics I've located. I understand that they will serve folk from other site crews as long as they have a laminate of some sort and they don't take the mick by turning up with 50 people and swamping the place!

Does this sound right to anyone who knows the bar? I'm onsite from tuesday morning and would love to check it out on Tuesday night? Last year I drank at the Bread and Roses which opens pre-festival and it was nice but Wally's looks nicer!

Haven't been in its current incarnation, but did in a previous one.

You'll have no issues getting in, either before gates open (no pass/wristband needed as everyone on site is assumed to be crew) or once the festival starts (just show your wristband)

In think we might have wandered into that last year, though we didn't know the name.

Looking at their blogspot it mentions getting in wsans wristband if you have 'a cheeky face and a blagger's tongue'.

Yeah I popped in there last year - it's a bar, not much different to lots of the other bars on site

Maybe so, but I like the idea of having the option of bolting out of Shangri La when the crowds and craziness get a little too much and being able to recharge with a comparatively calmer pint before diving back into the madness! It is located, if I understand it right, very close to the action, but hidden away just enough so that only crew folk know it's there.

It's quite a big bar- Went a couple of times last year before the gates opened and then again after (although it was a bit more difficult later on to get in, with an EPO wristband we got in OK). Nice 'pub' with a BBQ, some strong cider and board games. We actually played a big game of Scrabble on the Monday night last year. Rock and Roll .

Yeah we went in it in 2013 a few times (we are not crew) and it was ace so we thought it was open to anyone, however last year on Wednesday night some bloke stopped us going in saying crew only which was a shame as always had great selection of booze....

We spoke to one of the bar staff in the unfairground and she said that it should be open to non-crew so she didn't understand why we couldn't access it

If anyone knows if this is open to non-crew this year please let me know as really nice bar

To be honest, before the gates open you shouldn't have any issue finding it - as everything else will be closed or under construction, the sound coming from it should be fairly obvious.

Went there last year on the Tuesday night by following the sound of the music it was playing. Managed to find another bar this way too.

But once the gates opened my audio-location skills weren't up for the task. I'll have to try and rememer how to get there this year.

It's a cracking bar! First found it in 2013 when anyone could drink in it, though last year you had to negotiate security as they'd moved the barrier forward a bit.

Great selection of beers and ciders and always get a friendly crowd in there so well worth a visit. Also the only place I know of on site that sells pickled eggs...

Is this the place that was decorated like an inside-out house (with board games)? I seem to recall you got there by following a path through the trees from the side of Shangi La (towards the loos/Rocket Lounge etc). If so it was brilliant in 2013.

From the pictures I've seen that doesn't sound like the right place to me. The pics I've seen show a tent with a wooden bar, lots of ciders and ales and a wooden seated area. Unless I'm wrong?

Dennis, a friend of mine, is responsible for creating many of those ciders...He's just won a bunch of awards for his latest batches. Was at a national Cider judging event of some sort in the last week or so, I think at the Bath and West.

No doubt they'll be available at Wally's this year.

BTW the whole Wally's thing is particularly poignant this year as it was named after Wally Hope who was the main mover behind the Free Festival/Stonehenge People's Free Festival scene all those years ago, and the first of June this year was the 30th anniversary of The Beanfield.

Hoping too get in this year. Friend if mine helps run it but the guus stewarding it last year refused too let us in, even with her there.

Looks like it has a fantastic menu. Bar itself is not very big atall.

The Arcadia crew bar "The Tow and Hitch" will open to all crew this year, from dusk til dawn from the 18th.
