Tent advice

Quecha make decent quality tents that are fine for festivals. As others have said, the key to any tent is how well it is pitched. A good, taut outer skin and well pegged down supports and you are good for any heavy weather. I went to glastonbury '99 in a poundstretchers £10 2 man tent, there was a thunderstorm on the Sat afternoon, rain on and off through that night and I was snug and dry without any issues.

does anyone have any experience with Quechua tents? i've got my eye on a couple that look pretty decent but as a general rule my festival tent game is pretty week and i always end up with some sort of mishap so i can't help but doubt my judgement

Have mostly used them since I think the 2008 festival. Survived 2011 totally dry. They're generally good quality, but I don't think they're the bargains they used to be relative to the rest of the market as it seems like their prices have gradually crept up while others have stayed flat.

If you're looking for a Pop-up, then Quechua is a great option.

I've had a double skinned 4 man pop up Quechua tent for a number of years and never had a problem with it in terms of rain getting in. I've got a single skin quecha pop up.

Kept me dry during torrential rain one summer.

Dry at night that is. Still woke up soaked due to the condensation from the warm morning. Good tents but get double skinned.

I have had problems trying to get it back in it's bag at the end of the festival though - I just can't seem to get the knack of it despite watching a video of how to do it several times.

That aspect is a lot better than it used to be - On most of the more recent models, they've introduced new systems for packing up the tents - either pull a string and the thing folds itself down, or bring certain clips together. On the one I've currently got, taking it down takes less than 2 minutes, and half of that is unpegging.

You're a bit unfortunate there - I didn't even realise they had a single-skin model in the range, all the ones I've ever seen have been double skin - it's one of the reasons I'd recommend them over others.

Yes, I've seen those pull string ones. Very clever. If I were in the market for another tent I'd certainly opt for one of those.

awesome i'm definatly thinking a pop up one, i've always been against them as it's not "proper camping" but after all these years of watching my mates sit drinking while i mess about trying to construct a big tunnel tent in the wind i think i've had enough

I'm thinking probably 3 man, they look a reasonable size but i'll pop in store and check them out, good to know they've got a decent rep

Eurohike Avon - had one of them since late 90s (I think).

Has done me very well for many a festival - see list in signature - plus occasional other hols too.

Unfortunately it was way past it's best so called it a day on it after last year's EOTR (packed, bought home and disposed of at local waste centre).

So, am in the market too, before this year's Glasto.

Ah... They don't. Got me thinking so I checked. It's a Gelert. I was confusing it with my Quechua beach shelter.

So in summary. Gelert are shit. Quechua are great. And I can vouch for their beach shelters. Which probably doesn't help the op one bit... (slinks off)

I think I'm going for a Urban Escape 3000HH. Don't really know if it's decent brand but it has a lot of positive reviews!

Forgetting the HH argument I think the important thing to remember is that you are going to have to sleep, eat, chat and other things in it for the best part of a week. So buy the best you can afford and definitely one you can stand up in. A week bent double is no fun.

girlfriend has found a deal on a OLPro The Martley 6/8 Berth Tent. Does anyone have an opinion on them. Not heard of the brand before but I'm not really knowledgeable about tents

Company called camplight are doing a flash sale tomorrow evening of refurbished pre erected tents within the festival fence. According to their Web page they are situated near the stone circle/Pennard hill.

They recondition tents that have been left at previous festivals and also supply things like airbeds and sleeping bags.

Looking at it the prices seem reasonable and a good option if you missed out on worthy view accommodation.
