Considering there is a lot of talk that the high up acts may be staggered I though I'd do a clashfinder based on the top 2 acts on second and main staggering:

http:///s/download16/

I know a lot of people don't like the idea of staggering stages but the fact I can watch Skindred,Deftones, NoFx and Sabbath on the Saturday makes it work out for me personally.

Also, the fact I can watch Maiden and Janes addiction on the Sunday works out well too.

I realise that so will prob miss a few mins but in the past they would have totally clashed

Yeah, I would be happy enough to miss the end/start of Disturbed/BT and start of Nightwish. Breaking Benjamin and Shinedown clash is a bugger but inevitable, I wouldn't turn up until around 3pm though.

I don't suppose if anyone knows if there are any plans to ever bring Sonisphere back to the UK?

If Download are struggling to avoid repeat headliners then I can't see Sonisphere faring any better.

in fact, when Sonisphere was going their headliners were invariably someone who had played Download in the previous few years

Lets face it, if Sonisphere came back in 2017, their headliners would be something like, Maiden, Slipknot and Kiss.

The only difference is that, bizarrely, Sonisphere always got praised for their line up.Despite it being more or less Download Mark 2

Sonisphere had a slightly larger net of bands it booked - stuff like Weezer and NIN - which always made it's lineups seem stronger than Download, who seem to book the same bands on a near two year cycle.

Not really.

Yes, they booked Weezer and NIN but yo coils say the same about many bands Download booked.

if you look at the Sonisphere line ups it is more or less the same bands on rotation at Download.i.e.Maiden, Metallica, Slipknot,Megadeth,Priest, Slayer, Motorhead, etc, etc, etc.

Really no room for both festivals.

the main selling point about Somisphere was the staggered stages so you didn't have clashes on the main two stages(ironically the thing that people are slagging Download off for this year)

hmm maybe it's the way they order their bands as well but i found myself far more often thinking 'that's a great Sonisphere lineup, i'd like to go' than i ever have with Download, who's top two on the two stages usually interest me and then the rest looks pretty shite and the same as every other year

If you google the past Sonishphere line ups you will see that they look just like a typical Donload line up, except with less bands and less stages. The only slight differences are that they tried to something a bit different by adding comedians or someone like Chas and Dave or Bjorn again fo a laugh.

Thenrespnse to the Gutterdammerung 'film' suggests that trying something different won't go down well with Download fans.

Did anyone notice a band called 'Avatar' being added to open the main stage on Saturday?

I hope that's just because the day was due an opening band and that's not their idea of a Down replacement!!? HA

i've never heard of them.

They were on the Friday on Main Stage before, maybe they're doing a reshuffle before announcing the last few bands due to Down to dropping out

Hopefully. I'd hope a reasonably sized academy band alteast in that 4th slot. (although this is DL haha)

Wish they'd hurry up with this final announcement though!

I like the idea of the 1st/2nd stage staggering, if that's what's happening, but i want some clarification before i buy my saturday day tickets.

Nope! Rival Sons have quietly been moved up to 4th. They are nowhere near this big a band, 5th I thought was too high a booking in the first place.

Avatar moved over to bottom of Sat main from Friday main is fine.

Royal Republic moved from 6th down second stage Saturday to 6th down main stage Friday.

Sneeky bastards! Thats literally been done this evening then, because last i looked earlier on today avatar had been added to the start of sat main and there was still an obvious poster gap were down had been..

Nevermind i guess, atleast it should mean a smoother transition from sixx:am to bury tomorrow for me without much of a gap and any need to watch rival sons.

It's not such an easy decision to say Friday is the weaker day now, Sabbath is all that just edges it. Very poor show from Download this year for the money and a joke of an effort to deal with changes. They should have binned Down instantly and looked to replace as quick.

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
