Not big enough without new material to headline the pyramid, they only just sold out 3 nights at Ally Pally last month.

Would they sub?

Maybe on the other stage?

I just can't get over the idea of one night Libs one night Taylor Swift. I think it would be fantastic.

i think they'd headline the other stage, but again i cant see Glasto booking them without new material? The initial excitement of there return seems to have faded.

I did see them at Benicassim last summer however and they were without doubt the highlight of the week, even Pete seemed to pull it together for a change!

They have said they were (planning on) writing in october/november and putting out a new album next year.....if they get round to it. I think they'd be such a great nostalgic act and glastonbury has always evaded them!

On top of selling a lot of tickets for Hyde Park, though. If that hadn't happened they could've sold Ally Pally out 5 or 6 times over I suppose.

I'm sure at least one festival would approach them to headline rather than them settling for Other Stage at Glastonbury. Depends on what they have planned though with new material and Carl's band that he seems to be pushing.

Indeed and they are clearly not shy of taking the pay day gigs :P

Didn't even headline Reading on their first come back, would sub /other stage headline.

Maybe they'd be better placed as sub in case they flop or don't turn up...then they at least wouldn't leave an entire field of people at a loss with nothing else to do?

I think this is the accepted theory of why they subbed R+L in 2010 underneath a much less popular at the time Arcade Fire.

They've proven they can make it work now so I'm pretty sure they'd headline, but they'll probably chase the money so maybe not Glastonbury.

That's true - I watched them and didn't stay for Arcade Fire...

I also completely agree with that. It's such a shame that they seem to have sold out when their entire foundation was built on playing to their fans and just doing it for the love of it.

The only consolation is perhaps that they've never managed to play Glastonbury as a quartet; they came close but never actually quite managed to do it. So perhaps if they were offered it they'd do it for old time's sake?

cos they've gone for the cash instead. Pete has a junkie habit to fund, remember?

I meant the times they were booked and pete never turned up (because of his junkie habit/habit to decide last minute he would rather be doing something else). I wonder if he's more committed this time round since he saw how wrong it went. Glastonbury is the big festival they always wanted to play together, and the one he was most upset they did without him. Carl's done it, Babyshambles did it....only the libs left.

im not sure about them now...when they were younger they just seemed more relevant, they just look a parody now..

That's my only problem with them. Saw them at ally pally and loved it, but everything seemed a bit....older and slower. All the classics were just slowed down a bit and although the crowd was still going wild, it just didn't quite have the same atmosphere as R+L - and that was even years after their prime!

They are a joke now. The people that liked them At the time are too old for that sort of thing (me) and the new young kids are only there for the celebrity draw and to cause trouble, see the Hyde park debacle, Glasto would not risk that. They are not popular to headline at all.

Went to both the Barrowlands gigs and one at Ally Pally and they were on fire and looked like friends again - they are working on new stuff and i reckon a new ep early in the year followed by an album later on - other stage headliner or sub pyramid would both draw big crowds

I'd love to see them at Glastonbury but I fear they'd do a better paying (but shitter) festival like TITP etc, although Carl does seem to have a soft spot for Glasto so you never know.

I saw them on the Saturday at Ally Pally and they were brilliant, great atmosphere amongst the crowd also. In hindsight I regret not sacking off the Sunday of Glasto this year and heading back to Scotland a day earlier so I could have seen them at the Barras. I wouldn't judge them based on the 2010 R&L shows, I saw them at Reading and it was alright but their gig a few days earlier at the Forum was one of the best gigs I have ever seen, they seem to come into their own on smaller stages.

As for new material, its a tricky one as Carl has a new band on the go with an album as good as finished yet he said he was going away with Pete to do some writing for a new Libs record, they've definitely been away so hopefully that's a sign that things are progressing on the album front. Tbh, its just nice to see them getting on, they certainly seemed to enjoy sharing a stage again.

Personally I like the newest album from Pete Doherty and although I think headlining is way out the question, they should do an acoustic intimate set on one of the other stages covering their classics and new gear...

IMHO

Now Stone Roses!! That's another story waiting to be written

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
