Getting over a break up?

I've given up on Romance to be honest. I'll just find someone vaguely decent looking to have kids with at the moment. Be easier as i get older, as the older ladies will be in the same boat.

I now realise that I squandered years being with the wrong women. What horrifies me most is that I wasted their finite number of years on this planet. If you settle for somebody just to have their company, rather than being alone, then you will still never be truly happy, and you'll be treating another human unjustly.

If you want 'true' happiness then it's shit or bust - you need to find love.

Are you saying you haven't had the best experiences & times with your partners?

No, I have indeed had many a happy time with ex girlfriends, and indeed thought I loved them at the time. It's just that I have now met my soul mate. I can't really explain, but it's another dimension entirely. It's beyond anything I had ever known existed. I have previously felt unhappy in my soul for decades. This unhappiness has been taken away because I've met my soul mate. I'm just trying to say to zahidf (and anybody else) that they shouldn't settle for something inferior to that, as they'll still not be happy if they do so. I might be wrong, but in my heart of hearts, I don't think so.

Oooh, that seems terribly defeatist.

makes me realise how lucky I am, I went through a few wild years from 19 to 24, then met my wife. And the old cliche rings true for me, I just knew she was the one for me from the first 2 days, the rest is a hugely long story, and one of massive coincidence and chance that finally led to us meeting back up in the UK (we met in greece, for only 2 days and didn't exchange details for various reasons). 22 years later we couldn't be happier.

What are peoples views on career vs relationships? It must be a really tough choice.

It wouldn't be a tough choice for me. If the relationship was right I'd much rather take that over a career. At the end of the day I'd like to look back and know that I decided to spend the finite time I have on this planet, sharing it joyfully with someone. To me the opposite ie choosing a career above a relationship, wouldn't mean anything to me at the end of the day. I've never really had a career, so to speak, but was very good at my job. Being good at it was important to me in an honour to myself kind of way. However, it was never 'all important'. As far as work goes - the graveyard is full of people who thought they were indispensable and the best.

I'm not sure how your Navy thing is going, and not sure how long one has to sign up for. If, say, it's only 5 years, then maybe you could do the Navy thing and then do the serious relationship thing after. Just a thought. If truth be known, your dilemma is a difficult one. No need to answer me on here but what does your heart and soul tell you what would be right? If it's heavily leading you in one direction, then you may really regret not going in that direction.

Sorry that the above is a bit wishy washy, it's just that there's probably no set universal answer to the question you pose.

Hope you are doing OK.

I'm ignoring the calls. I think its due to my friend asking if I want to join him on a jolly to Thailand on facebook, although I have blocked her.

I could do with a holiday to get away tbh.

What you could do with is a good shake ffs, get over it and move on, oh and tell her once and for all to do one.

You can't keep going on like this Couchy, though it does keep this thread going. You're better than all this bollocks, and you know it, so just get on with it and live your life :)

I've been to Thailand a few times. It's a magical place, especially if you go off the beaten track. It's the flaura , fauna and culture that you need to concentrate on. Forget the other shite.

Wish I was going with you.

All the best.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
    • Taxi mafia running their usual scam.
