Nope not havin that...no way!!!! ....really!!!

Yes really! Technically it's popty cordi - something, but most Welsh folk call it a popty ping. Lovely, isn't it? Especially if you say it in a Welsh accent, isn't it :)

Nb- Welsh accent not conveyed well via text!

Not many people know that...

Including me!

I also found out that It is a square pyramidal number (the sum of the squares of the integers 1 to 5) as well as a heptagonal number, and a centered nonagonal number.

In base 10, it is a Kaprekar number.

55 is a semiprime, being the product of 5 and 11 and it is the 2nd member of the (5.q) semiprime family. 55 is one of only two integers with an aliquot sum of 17 (the other being 39). 55 has an aliquot sequence of 4 members: (55, 17, 1, 0)

My head is battered!!

All silliness aside, though, I think the answer to the sweets question is 4/9.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I do know that is wrong. The chances of picking the first sweetie mentioned is 4/9 and the odds of picking the second sweetie is 5/9 but the odds of both picking the same sweetie??????

And I was always good at maths! What the hell happened?

Anyway only mentioned the fibonacci number cos it's rather beautiful - a sequence of numbers made by adding the last 2 together 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ...... and it's found in nature - fir cones, flowers, leaves, sea shells, rabbits......how great is that! nature following a rule so beautiful.

And since when did I become scary?............I shall retire and leave you folks if that be the case :-(

Yes, that sequence in nature is beautiful, I've seen some great photos.

(Dee isn't scary unless you're a delayed train, surely? )

edit, I didn't see the sweets question, but wouldn't you eat all of them, not just pick 1?

Hey, Cg

How you doin'?

Ben

I'm fooking marvellous Ben!! I have decided that life's problems will not get me down. I have spent all of my money... But mostly on helping people so feel good factor is 'up there'! I'm working shit loads but also grafting at home... (Decorated my living room last night after a 13 hour shift). Tomorrow after work I'm building furniture. Feeling a little guilty that I haven't visited grandpa tho! And The Big Field is calling in 56 days!!! Massive Whoop Whopps!! x

Very sad tonight, sold Yorky our motorhome.

The people who brought him are lovely people tho, which makes us happy he has gone to a good home.

I must sound mad, but we were very attached.

I know what you mean. I've just put my car through its mot, there was a good chance it wouldn't be worth it as it is old. I was sad at the idea of having to give it up! Thankfully it lives, for a while anyway :)

ok ok if you really want to know the answer to the sweetie problem (grade B gcse question by the way)

9 sweets in all

5 lemon

4 orange

say they both choose lemon. First pick is 5/9 ( That's a fraction by the way). second pick is 4/9 (because one's been eaten.

Probability both choose lemon is 5/9 x 4/9 = 20/81

say they choose orange - first pick is 4/9 second is 3/9 so together the probability is 4/9 x 3/9 = 12/81

probability they both choose lemon OR both choose orange is 20/81 x 12/81 = 240/6561 = 0.0366 approx.

If you remember probability trees from school maths - you can calculate this using a diagram.....I can't draw this on a pc ...not this late in the day.

But in short.....not very likely at all
