Think we've looked better defensively with lallana in the middle.. didn't see the point in using him in the warmups and not the final. Going forward hasn't been too bad they've had to do a lot of fouling to break up our attacks

Just not good enough. Our two full backs whose reputations are built mainly on what they offer going forward offered very little. I don't know why Baines insisted on continually cutting in and laying the ball off, three times he whipped the ball in with his left and it caused trouble but he still didn't push that approach. Gerrard's distribution was poor, although I wouldn't blame him for the second goal as the ball would have still bypassed our leaden-footed ball-watching centre-backs even if he hadn't flicked it on. We were naive in attack; all Suaraz's dives and falls got free-kicks while Welbeck, Sturridge and Sterling fell around the penalty box with no conviction at all. Replacing Sterling and Welbeck with Barkley and Lallana only put three players on the pitch who all wanted to play in the centre, thus losing the width that was stretching the Uruguayan defense and playing right into the hands of their two central defensive midfielders (Rios and the guy who got concussed) who had very effective games. What looked impressive and effective against an open and tiring Italian defense played into the Uruguayan plan of playing compact, soaking up pressure, winning the ball/knocking the England players over and then launching it long.

Well I never said he would not improve them, but did say he was still injured. He took his goals brilliantly tonight but his movement throughout was not at 100%, so he can be even better.

Better defenders up against him tonight and he does not get those chances. Shame for ye that yall think Terry is a c**t and that is a reason for him not to be there

Terry in this team and England may have not lost yet in this WC

It's not just Terry but Cole, Baines is way out of his depth at this level.

Perhaps the lack of champions league experience did go against a lot of the team.

As an Everton fan it's hard to admit but the last two games certainly show that. With suitable midfielders ahead of him who work towards the same system/style he's a roaring success at Everton, without that he isn't good enough to adapt to another system and he certainly can't cover the whole left side of the field like Cole. How England line-up negates his skills, in that system Cole would have offered just as much going forward and more defensively.

    • I really like the Cheap Thrills! I saw them at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester in January at one of Chris Hawkins' "Awesome Friends" nights (which i think is why I even got tickets as it wasn't listed as a Cheap Thrills show!). Very good live and some great songs. I would've gone Saturday if I'd planned ahead!
    • They also seem to be in a mission to break the US with their new major label and this latest LP   Mid afternoon, live streamed on Disney+ is arguably a much bigger gig than Kendal Calling, if they had to skip one
    • This is massively exciting. I've been curious to who will be provide vocals for their live show and this is mega!
