Could The Libertines play?

Thinking about it, I agree with the folk who question how many tickets they would be able to sell. They still have a big draw imo and there is a lot of people who would love to see them live but as said they definitely don't have as big a pull as they previously did. Doesn't help that the reunion would be so blatantly motivated by financial gain. Call me naive for believing it but last time they reunited there was talk of future gigs, future songs and Carl and Pete being friends again which added to the excitement. (Obviously with hindsight that last reunion was purely for financial reasons) I love the Libertines but wouldn't travel down to London just because Pete has decided he's got to clear a few debts, I'd rather see them with their hearts in it.

If the ticket prices were fairly low then I'd be tempted. I think that's the only way they'll sell it out to be honest.

Obviously wouldn't compare to seeing them at Brixton or wherever, but I guess I have to accept they'll be doing it for the money and nowt more. Just a kid when they were at their 'peak' (which probably seems ridiculous to 95% of eFests), so this is probably the only chance I'll have.

A warm-up gig would be more tempting though.

Yeah, I was thinking of that. Peter was busy off his face Peter was busy modelling for Heidi Slimane at his birthday party and neglected to tell Oasis he wouldn't be coming iirc, but I couldn't remember if they'd made any of the dates of that tour or not.

I'm not sure that's completely accurate. I don't think a secret gig at Glastonbury would get the type of crowd it'd get elsewhere. The reason they won't do a secret gig is because there'll be a watertight exclusivity clause if a reunion does happen. Fairly sure Carlos will play a few times at Glastonbury, as he normally does.

If word got out that they were about to play a secret gig, there would be a major surge, causing the same problems there were when Radiohead did the same in 2011, granted they may not be as big as Radiohead, but it'd be a rarity to see The Lib's play and tens of thousands wouldn't have seen them before!

many Libs fans have the most ridiculous view of their popularity. Even at their peak they weren't as popular as you're imagining them to be now.

The crowd was packed at Leeds 2010, and half of them left afterwards and skipped the headliners Arcade Fire.

They were a household name back in the day, and I reckon they would be at least as big as Arctic Monkeys now if it hadn't all fallen apart so early.

Start with after the goldrush and everybody knows this is nowhere.

Then - as it's his most recent - go to psychedelic pill and then the other horse ones such as rust never sleeps and ragged glory as they're more likely to have stuff on he'll play.

On the beach and tonights the night are the best two but unlikely lo feature in a show with crazy horse. Right up your depressing street - musically and lyrically - those two though I reckon.

they were tabloid name back in the day, and only because junkie with Kate was a great story, not because of talent or popularity. ;)

That's HUGELY slanted perceptions.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
