you'd have Kasabian to thank for that rather than Metallica. and i somehow doubt there will be any circle pits. maybe a bit of playful pushing and shoving, but circle pits? come on, the attendees will be the same people who'd be there if it was any other headliner, not a sudden influx in metalheads looking to get their circle pit fix

there'd be more chance of piss throwing and aggression if the Stone Roses were headlining

I don't see how one of the world's biggest bands

as Holy Moly pointed out yesterday, Phil Collins (solo career only) has sold 50% more records than them.

So in the scheme of things, their sales aren't as big as some might imagine.

yes that's kind of the point - the attendees will be the same as normal, but the band will be one that should be at reading with piss throwing and circle pits.

i'm all for diverse bookings on the pyramid, just not shit metal ones

This will be the first and last metal headliner. If anyone thinks this is going to pave the way for future headline performances from Kill Mothers Corpse and Drink My Cancer Blood or whatever these bands are called, you are crackers.

loads of metal clips have been posted recently. All of them involve men pushing and shoving and fighting with each other in the crowd. And one showed a girl being hit on the head by a pint of piss, and went on to show her punching the fellow.

I can only assume they ran out of options. There dont seem to be any other "headline sized" bands on the bill that could have been bumped to headliner, so metallica was the only choice left, sadly.

Cant see massive attack or pixies doing it

If it is Metallica v Pixies then the Pyramid field will be a lot more full than if it were someone less rock on the Other. I still think that's a crazy clash.

I have a massive soft spot for Metallica as I'm the right age for it but, and this is a big but, I am worried about being anywhere near the front of the Pyramid as well - its not the 'proper' metal fans, of which presumably there will only be a few as they would have tickets by chance iyswim. But more the certain sort of people's IDEA of what they should behave like at a Metallica gig which will be all the usual bollocks.

Metallica are only mildly heavier than the likes of Pink Fairies or Hawkwind, so the crowd will be replete with all the old heads coming out of the woodwork for the first time in aeons.

Personally, I'm very much looking forward to it but am not at all confident that it will be a big crowd. I've mentioned before that I'm somewhat surprised by the amout of positivity towards Metallica playing that I have seen here and in the real world. I would have expected a very limited number of Glastonbury goers to be excited/intrigued enough to go but my hopes have been raised.

Autoninflate's posts are becoming laughable. Agressive rock fans? Loved up dance music fans? People have already pulled your posts apart so there's not much point in me continuing. I did like the dig at anamatronic spiders though. There's clearly no place for that sort of thing at Glastonbury, no dance music fan would be seen anywhere near it, it they did, they'd wet themselves laughing and run away to Arcadia. oh... hang on. The crux of your argument seems to be "I don't like them... WAAAAHHH!"

You need to get over it. One band on one stage, go see something else. I won't be there for Arcade Fire or Kasabian but good luck to them. I don't know if people are moaning about them on the threads dedicated to them because I don't read them, I don't care. I'm sure they'll have large crowds (even the rather niche Arcade Fire) and a good time will be had by all in atendance.

Possibly.

But Metallica is also as dull as dishwater to fans of those bands, which is a big part of the reason why the older metallers in the early/mid 80s predominantly had no interest in Metallica.

they're definitely playing the Saturday (have it listed on tour dates i believe) and the way they're ordered on the lineup poster (between Skrillex and Massive Attack) definitely makes it look like they're an Other headliner

of course that's all subject to change now that Metallica are seemingly headlining. would be weird to put a band who were seemingly meant to be subbing Metallica, up against Metallica
