Oddly, I got home last night, switched on radio 6 and Live Forever came on. It still sounded pretty good. But after that, what else is there? Slide Away. Maybe Supersonic or Cigarettes & Alcohol.

Their b-sides trip off the tongue lads.

Fade Away

Stay Young

Masterplan

Its Good To Be Free

Half The World Away

Acquiesce

Theres a half-dozen there that any 90's band would have been proud of. Their second best record is a collection of b-sides FFS!

Listen to something like "Idler's Dream". Its gorgeous.

Definitely Maybe was and remains a great album, will always be a personal favourite, especially tracks like Bring It On Down and Columbia. Raw energy backed by a wall of sound. Super. The Never Mind The Bollocks... of the 90s.

Went off em a bit after that, too many love ballads.

I've got no beef with the constant creative cannibalism that occurs throughout musical history, even in the case of old blues things > Little Queenie > Get It On > Cigarettes & Alcohol - as long as the results are fresh or interesting or delivered with sufficient conviction. But sometimes the end product is just a faint photocopy of another faint photocopy.

It brings a heavy dose of sadness to my heart reading so many negative comments about the band that mean so much to me. A quick think about the 8 No.1 singles, 7 No.1 albums, sell out stadium tours and 70-80 million record sales soothes me somewhat though. Some of the ideas about why they were so utterly gargantuan - undoubtedly the biggest band since The Beatles on these shores - are so convoluted, so desperate to come up with complex sociological/political explanations, its like someone doing a hundred page thesis on 2+2=4. I've got a theory for you; the tunes were sky scrapingly, earth scorchingly brilliant. There, it seemed like the elephant in the room. Great songs. Colossal songs. Songs that made you want to hug your friend like never before. Songs to sing yourself hoarse to.

Its disappointing to hear several posters complete, head in the sand refusal to acknowledge that Oasis popped out even one good song. As for the records not ageing well, i don't hear that at all. Are we talking production or content? Production sounds perfect to me and when will getting pissed and having a few fags go out of fashion?

Doing their best work early on has always been used as a stick to beat them with, unfairly in my opinion. If their career was reversed and they finished with a one-two of Morning Glory-Definitely Maybe, i guarantee their catalogue would be reviewed differently. Why? Whether you were up 3-0 and let it slip or came from 3 down to finish 3-3, the result is the same.

The constant dismissal of Oasis fans as a bunch of pissed up extras from The Walking Dead is a familiar, wearying trait in the non believers. Personally, i can enjoy their concerts without the need to soak someone else in urine. Call me old fashioned. Nor do i nut the person next to me, vomit over the person next to them before going home to put my Northern Uproar Anthology on.Talking of concerts, i've seen the chaps 21 times and only once were they less than breathtakingly brilliant; Glastonbury 04'. Their sullen refusal to put on any kind of 'show', or gush about the honour of headlining was further ruined, from my vantage point, by the worst sound i've ever heard for a Pyramid headliner. Oh well.

Some nice picks for Oasis songs that may have slipped under the radar mentioned on here. A few more;

Lets All Make Believe

Take Me Away

Gas Panic!

Where Did It All Go Wrong? Lyric; 'Do you keep the receipts for the friends that you buy?/ And ain't it bittersweet, you're only just getting by'.

Better Man

Eyeball Tickler

One Way Road

Waiting For The Rapture (Alt version 2)

It's Better People

I feel better now.

They're probably as good, if not better, than has been described

The problem is this, I can't form an opinion after the first couple of albums. I've bought a few of the others but haven't got past a couple of tracks and then changed to something else.

For years now I've intended to make the effort to try to get a bit further through them but not managed it....I'll make a note to try again after the passionate postings.

I do however have to admit that Beady Eye were a good warm up for The Hives
