Probably true. Coulda said that about green day though?

Green Day do (well, did) still have mainstream credibility / are/were 'current' (as in up until those three recent albums, the masses still gave a shit about them). Linkin Park are like ten years past being anything to do with credible / current. only way they could headline again is if they somehow managed to release a game changing album, and that's just not happening. scorned to forever headline Download every three years

Yeah, I think you are probably right. Wouldn't be too surprised if they came back however with another number 1 album (cause the last few have been) but as you said download seem to consistently want and have them.

even though they still get number one albums, those albums soon fall off the radar. seems it's a bunch of hardcore Linkin Park fans that are buying the album in the first week and then barely anybody in the following weeks. so yeah, thankfully Download and Sonisphere will keep getting them (and anyway, Download and Sonisphere have such slim pickings when it comes to headliners that it wouldn't be fair if other festivals started snatching them up haha)

If blink can still headline I see no reason why Linkin Park cant

think it's been hotly debated that Blink is a bizarre / somewhat weak booking

Oh!!

come on, those last three albums bombed so badly. i know it was down to bad promotion / Billie Joe's whole ordeal, but they came and went without many people caring (and 21st Century Breakdown was pretty bad too... it was just successful off of the hype of American Idiot)

The joke is the idea of Green Day ever having credibility.

Don't all number 1 albums fall off the radar? They don't produce many hit singles if that's what you're getting at.

Yeah, I still wouldn't put it past reading, especially if they keep getting shitty old bands that most 20 something's liked when they were 12. Green day and blink fall into that bracket as much as Linkin park do, so it's definitely not impossible.

to be fair a couple of years ago (maybe 2011?) i was convinced that Linkin Park were going to headline R/L (based off nothing but me not being able to think of who else it could be - turns out they did end up scraping the bottom of the barrel but not enough to reach Linkin Park)

unless Linkin Park have another hit (yeah that's what i was getting at) i don't see it happening (and even if it did, can you imagine the uproar? it's bad enough when they're announced for Download, so much so that they've resorted to 'first album in full' gimmicks to keep people interested)

To be fair I think the part of the uproar is due to them playing download again so soon, just like blink with reading this year - yet the still get booked.

But yeah I agree it would seem weird without another album with a popular single - but again I bring you blink 182.

Still unlikely, but possible.

if this years rumoured headliners (Blink, Arctics and Paramore/QOTSA) are true then this looks like another 2011 to me - organisers really struggling to get headliners and getting whatever they could, so Blink is a bit of an anomaly (i fail to believe that Blink were their first choice, especially as the festival has made a habit of not repeating headliners so quickly in the past)

but yeah, i suppose it is always possible. really quite surprised it hasn't happened in the last ten years that they headlined (but i suppose the festival hasn't been seemingly stuck for headliners until the last two or so years when the co-headlining stuff came into play)

    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
