foolee
I think it has some great bands there and this will be my first year. But looking at previous lineups I'd say this year is much more weak than those! Saying that I'd say there aren't really many bands around this summer that they've seemingly missed out on. Think they've done well with what they can play with! Two bands that they have missed out on who would make the lineup look much stronger are Arcade Fire and Queens of the Stone Age but that is due to touring schedules. foolee
Yeah, don't know the others but when you think of a band like The Offspring, that would be a good booking. Proper band to have on the main stage that
Gucci Piggy
Could they not be bumped up to Barn headliner though?
Babyquack
Doubt it. They've released nothing since, and no Belgians I spoke to there had even heard of them.
Com Truise
They have had two successful european tours since then though so will be more widely known... Doesn't matter too much though until we know day splits which will hopefully come soon
Babyquack
Be nice if we ended up having PJ, TBK, Pixies and Biffy all on the main stage eh.... too nice some might say
Dietediet
They could have got Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and The Offspring for an example, but they let other Belgian festivals, a lot smaller festivals, have them...
Gossard
Because those bands prefer (sub)headlining at smaller festivals over afternoon spots at Werchter.
Com Truise
that's what a lot of people are complaining about because the line up is too weak and in desperate need of real rock music!
Gossard
I don't think it's in desperate need of anything when it's managed to nearly fully sell out so soon
thetime
like most of all the people I know and are going, bought their ticket because judging on past lineups, and this being a 40th anniversary, they thought the lineup would be amazing....and are now very disappointed. Dietediet
Haha, really? I saw both Soundgarden and Offspring play 3rd down at Rock am Ring and Alice in Chains always play in the afternoon, where ever they play. Anything more from you mr "ithinkimsosmart" ?? Funny how you are defending RW and their poor lineup this year.....when actually you seem to be full of s**t! Gossard
Good post from you at last Dietediet....and I'm sorry for calling you "full of S**t". We just have two different opinions on this matter and we should respect that. I agree for most part in you answer, but not about the bookings and freeing the organizers of all blame. They could have booked *Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and the Offspring, but chose not to. Don't you think Alice in Chains would have wanted to play on the same day as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden? And Offspring, playing in front of 65-70k people at RW at 8-9pm is more appealing then playing a bit later but for 15-20k people at Grozerock...especially if the money is better. I can understand bands like Volbeat and AX7, as they are headlining GMM, but not the other three. About the shout for more rock acts every year(though it wasint me until now), if it's every year, maybe they have a point, don't you think?? But as I've said quite a few times now, I think the balance between rock acts and pop needs to be better this year, like it's been every year since I started going in 2009. *I'm not saying I really want Soundgarden, Alice in Chains or the Offspring. These are just three bands playing at a smaller Belgium festival that I think RW could have got. Edited March 6, 2014 by Gossard

Gossard
Gossard, i have the same musical taste than you, I don't know why do yo choose attending Rock Werchter. I attend every year Groezrock and Pukkelpop where there is lot of good bands. You have amazing options in Europe: Rock Am Ring, Hurricane, Nova Rock, Greenfield, Hellfest, Graspop... If you want to run away from Mainstean and indie/popp Mtv bands... why choosing Rock Werchter? And if you choose it, don't complain, just choose another festival! Gossard
...plus, I don't know how much you guys pay for a RW trip in total, but for us coming from Iceland it's around 2000 euros in all. So, you can understand why people are unhappy if the lineup is weak.....

KrisMalta
I do not know what all the big fuss is all about. What I consider to be a festival great or not, is its variety. I do not want to go to a festival where band after band, they play the same style for four whole days. What I find important is, that through the day, there is only a couple of times when there is no acts to play. I chose rock werchter over this, because it has everything and that is why it sold out. If you have a girlfriend and she does not like the same shit you like, there is enough to satisfy both. If you have been going to rock werchter, year in year out, I understand that you might have gotten used to it, but bloody chance if you think that it has been getting weaker. I do not live in Belgium, so it is expensive for me as well, but if the line up was not good, I would not go. What some people classify as rock, for other it doesn't. This can apply the same way vice versa. Myself, probably the most moment which I was happy about is when they announced trentemoller, because I was not expecting as such, and will be looking forward to a different style of music which I have followed for the last few years. Just be happy with what there is, and trust me, compared to other line ups, it is exceptional. You have to enjoy the little acts as well not just be blinded by the big names. Sure we are paying good money, but at the end of the day, it is not how many acts you heard, but whether you go home happy and that's that.
