Sunday Park secret headliner?

ha that would be absolutely manic trying to decide which secret set to go to (if you caught wind of it from the gaps in the lineup etc). imagine running to the Park only for it to be Kaiser Chiefs and then finding out Prince was on the Pyramid

think they are but i (for some reason that i can't remember) was under the impression that if a band plays a secret set it has a kind of loophole around the 'exclusivity' deals. i could be totally wrong about that, though. Hot Chip would be great but i don't reckon it'll be them

Was surprised Belle and Sebastian weren't on the line-up, and they are back and haven't played since 04 (!). Right kind of/size of band too. Having said that, I'm not convinced this slot actually exists but there you go!

How official is this secret slot? I mean, will it be officialy printed in line-up that there will be "someone" playing at the particular hour? Or do I need to stand all day if I want to see it? :P

Also, a little bit of offtop but what about all of the TBAs on the official site? Will they be announced before festival?

surely when the official set times are announced, if Cat Power is listed as early as she is as on these leaked set times then SOMETHING secretive must be going on. they have no real reason to just close the Park off so early. i'm sure all of the secret sets / gaps in the lineup will be scoped out on this forum once the times are out

The Sole way i found out about Pulp and Radiohead was by literally asking the lady in the info centre of the park

'Who's the special guests?'

'Pulp and Radiohead - oh wait, thats meant to be a secret, dont tell anyone' - The hilarity of this was, she said this to everyone , So i guess, it would have been known very well.

In 2010 i had no idea about Thom Yorke, but Biffy had flags everywhere around Oxylers at least, i assume if a band of Biffy's size then do something this year, they'll do something similar!

He finished at 10:45 as opposed to the others finishing at 00:15, so a good hour and a half earlier. Admittedly it looks like Cat Power will be finishing closer to 9:30-9:45 compared to the others at the usual 00:15ish, so yeah that is much much earlier.

bollocks i read the other two finishing times as 11.15 and 11.00 rather than 12.15. considering the early finish for the Sunday (and given that Cat Power finishes at 9.30sh) there'd have to be a half hour gap between acts, meaning the 'special headliner' would come on at 10 and probably only get an hour set, which itself seems weird

tbh, after all of this, the leaked set times are probably wrong. none of it seems to add up, really

If the times are correct and Cat Power gets 1 hour she will finish at 21:30 or if she gets 1 hour 15 minutes then 21:45.

Last year Gruff Rhys finished at 22:45.

If for some reason the Park has to finish at 22:45 (not the case in 2010) there would be 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes free - possibly enough time for a quick secret set.

If the closing time for the Park is 23:15 like the other stages then there would be 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes free - enough time for a secret headline set.

If the closing time for the Park is 23:45 as in 2010 then there would be 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes free - plenty of time for a secret headline set.

If they were going to have an actually secret Park stage set then this is the way to go about it. Pretend Cat Power is the last act on and don't write 'Special Guest' or anything like that after it.

    • It feels really busy this year, loads of big groups of youngsters too. Slightly different vibe to previous years I've been. As with Tramlines, they're very chatty during sets and there's a constant stream of them in and out of the crowd... definitely feeling my age 😂   The Quarry stage I think is a lot smaller than previous years - seems similar size to Squid/Leadmill. Some sets have been difficult to get in.   I think I've reached my limit with mid-tier indie guitar bands. There's been quite a few this weekend where I've gone over to see them then walked away after 20 mins. Surprisingly, enjoyed the Fratellis set the most in this genre. Probably getting on for 20 years since I last saw them. Wasn't expecting them to do Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, which was fab!   Hugely enjoyed the Happy Mondays yesterday, and same but different with Radio Free Alice who I saw again on Friday, following Tramlines last weekend. A big run of pop acts today - Scissor Sisters will be fantastic!
