The difference is, Isle Of Wight would have passed, Glastonbury is sold out. so wouldn't effect sales, so it shouldn't have too much implication surely, and if so, surely Finsbury Park and Glasgow Green would of effected it, infact, Isn't Isle Of Wight more than 100 miles away anyway?

I bet if Mumfords cancel, Kasabian will do it. They have a show rehearsed as they are playing at the Olympic Park the night before... My other half has been saying for weeks he thinks they are on "Glasto standby".

if they do bring in somebody new to headline, it will be somebody incredibly bog standard. a lot of the names being thrown about in this thread are ridiculous. it'll be somebody in the UK at the time, currently touring, not an exclusive elsewhere (or that exclusivity ends before Glastonbury, i.e. if the festival itself is before Glastonbury), and standard as fuck. Kasabian are the most realistic bet. was only a matter of time before they headlined, and whilst replacing somebody else isn't the best way to do your debut Glastonbury headline performance, i doubt they'd turn it down. guess it'll give them something to prove if anything

In 1997 they just bumped a couple of bands that were already on the bill up. Both Ash and Kula Shaker played twice. So litterally anyone that has played on Friday or Saturday could play a second set. Maybe Chic, Public Enemy, or Example. They didn't go for someone who had already played the Pyramid in 97

For me, if M&S pull out then rather than go for an established name or someone else who's headlined a festival in the last 18 months, they should take the gamble and promote someone to their first major headliner. Yes it's a risk but short notice, low expectations....real chance for a band to seize the moment and elevate themselves. Don't think they will though - logical approach is to promote Nick Cave to top slot and shift else over from another stage. Suspect there isn't enough money in the piggy bank to bring in another main act.

If it was radiohead they would absolutely blow the rolling stones out of the water, and people would be talking about their performance for years, while the stones will be quickly forgotten, and filed alongside the other dump squibs, like springsteen, u2 et al

well, I'd be happier with Kasabian than I would with Mumford so I've no complaints if they do replace. Like them or not, Kasabian have had a proper load of drunkeness belter sing a long choons, even if it is by the numbers white boy guitar shite.

I can't imagine Mumfords were much of a fee. Certainly less than some of the names been suggested here. Stones would have cost a fortune.
