I know it's not the v festival but when Oasis pulled out of headlining they just moved the second act to headline ( luckily we saw then at last ever gig (Weston park). So start thinking about how the band feel not who will play.

they were still a big deal then, though probably not Wembley filling. they've been a big deal since that first gig at Reading in 1994. on that particular day at Glastonbury they were up against England v Colombia at France 98.

he would be a possibility and has been mentioned...is at Bonnaroo this weekend

but...i think we also need to think of the time slot, which was to be just 90 mins given Mumfords 2-album output. Getting a headliner is difficult enough on short notice, but moving the previous stage times around by another 45 mins or so would be even more of an issue i'd think... and Macca would request a full 50 mins or hr btw him and Cave too.

so, i'm thinking it has to be someone who would find a 90 minute set to be perfectly normal...rules out Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Macca, but still gives Stone Roses a possibility?

Not to be too harsh but isn't this stating the obvious? They will have clearly said to Glastonbury that they're keen to do it but they can't give them a yes or no for x amount of time. Therefore they would have intimated that they understand if Glastonbury want to start searching for a replacement in case they can't confirm by a certain date.

The one thing I'm sure of is that neither side is just sitting twiddling their thumbs hoping for the best.

Glasto will give them every chance to play but ultimately they are a business and will have told mumford that they'll need a yes or no by a certain time next week.

Oh and additionally. I hate to be cynical, but even if glastonbury line up a replacement and KNOW m&s cant make it, its in their interests to announce closer to the festival, so that when they don't have replacement t-shirts etc they can more convincingly state they had no time to re-print.

I cant see it effecting it. I'd imagine if mumford drop out then it will be a double announcement. 'Mumford and Sons have had to cancel but we are delighted to announce that x have volunteered to step in for them'.

I can't just see Glasto announcing a cancellation and leaving it up in the air.

Glasto did that even for a "small" act like Tourmani Diabate a few days ago, so I don't think they'd risk a flood of people spamming their mail/twitter accounts, asking "Who is it going to be the replacement", IF Mumford pull (or maybe have already pulled out) they'll do a double announcement, saves them a lot of work!

I seem to remember there being 2 announcements with U2 one saying they've pulled out and then the gorillas one...

I'm sure they were very very close together though ,,, were they not the same day?

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
