Is Nick Cave as a sub the wrong choice?

Subbing twice (one as Grinderman) at Coachella this w/e and the next, must remember to watch the stream http://www.coachella.com/lineup/set-times

Would have liked to see him headline JP and Grinderman on The Park too perhaps

Hang on .... I never said Pendulum are a better act, just with a more current well known/commercial stuff which suited the pre-Bryonce crowd.

And being mid 30's I had heard of him but with the exception of the song with Kyle had no knowledge of any of his work.

Maybe people are right and he's been put there as a contrast to the Mumfords, but I think and someone else mentioned it, ....however good his music is its not instantly accessible and will therefore go under appreciated by the majority of the crowd. This is why I think subbing the headline act on main stage needs to be a bit more either current or known ie Dizzie & Primal Scream.

Yes it is - I prefer the Henry's Dream songs on here to the album version.

I started with the Best Of to be fair. And then bought everything else pretty swiftly.

I love how every Nick Cave thread swiftly ends up being album and song recommendations - and they're usually all different.

If you look on it as purely a commercial decision and god forbid that NC&TBS would do anything on that basis. The Pyramid slot might offer the best chance of new fans/sales. On the other hand in the JP tent or wherever, there's only going to be a partisan crowd. Would be good for fans but not so good in terms of potential sales growth. And after all, the band will get paid whatever stage they play.

Like some have said already, imho they're the best on offer for Sunday so far & doesn't matter to me where they play.

Apologies if I'm repeating anybody elses opinion.

In my humble opinion Nick Cave doesn't strike me as being too bothered about sales, exposure etc, he could easily have taken a more "pop" route when he was getting mainstream attention from the Kylie track, but he didn't. He strikes me as the sort of guy that just does what he does & if people turn up to see it/buy it then great, but if not he'd probably still be doing it anyway.

Excuse me while I reminisce..

I then saw NC and the Bad Seeds for the first time again the Electric Ballroom in November 1984. Here's the setlist:

Blind Lemon Jefferson/ From Her To Eternity/ Say Goodbye To The Little Girl Tree/ Knockin' On Joe/ Black Crow King/ Train Long Suffering/ Well Of Misery/ Saint Huck/ Knockin' On Heaven's Door

and then again at the Hammersmith Palais in April 1985 (supported by Sonic Youth - what a fucking gig). Here's the setlist:

Blind Lemon Jefferson/ Sad Dark Eyes/ Tupelo/ Well Of Misery/ Wanted Man/ Say Goodbye To The Little Girl Tree/ Knockin' On Joe/ Train Long Suffering/ Saint Huck/ Avalanche/ Black Crow King/ Wild World/ Jennifer's Veil.

what I wouldn't give for that setlist at Pilton - except maybe end the set with Sonny's Burning..."hands up who wants to die..." that'll put the shits up the Mumfords :)

    • Tell me more. Last Latitude we went to was '21 - my son was young & had a wagon so we snuck good beers in that way. I remember there being some Brooklyn IPA on sale which was tolerable - are you saying they don't sell anything other than Carlsberg now?! 😳
    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
