Is Nick Cave as a sub the wrong choice?

You say that, but it's having consulted recent setlists that I find myself so torn.

Push The Sky Away is miles better than Oceania, so in terms of recent material Nick Cave wins. But songs like Today, Tonight Tonight, Cherub Rock and (god willing) Soma are, I know, exactly the sort of songs I'll want to hear on the Sunday night - when I'm feeling wistful.

Plus, I fully intend to watch Phoenix as a headliner. A Pumpkins/Phoenix run would instil a feeling of almost unbearable positivity.

But then, Nick Cave.

It's not easy at all.

Welcome to the thread for people with superior musical taste!

I agree with you about Arctics, they are poor. A lot of people were saying it would be better if Nick Cave played before them since they are fans but I think it would be almost an insult for that reason. At least he and Mumford are probably indifferent to each other.
