Is Nick Cave as a sub the wrong choice?

You are completely right of course.

Being an antisocial type I have been to many gigs on my own and always really enjoy it. At Glastonbury I'm quite happy to do so as well. It's just that I would like to see Pumpkins and I'll already be by that stage so I must be doubly strong.

The thought of people talking about his set on here and missing 'From Her To Eternity' is enough though. I will be there. I can always watch Pumpkins on TV and go 'That looks good but I made the right choice.' If I missed Cave I wouldn't even be able to bring myself to watch it on TV.

Great that he's on the Sunday! I have something genuinely exciting on every day.

I'm the same. I love going to gigs alone.

For nick cave's 2 london gigs I'm going to one with the other half, and will go to the other one alone. The one I go to alone I expect to enjoy a lot more

I'm still hoping when the whole line up is released the pumpkins/cave clash will be avoided. We dont know for certain its happening (though is v likely of course)

That's really funny as I did the same thing for one of his London tours before. Took the other half to one, went alone to the other and enjoyed the latter more :D

I'm only going to one London date and with two friends so all the more reason to go it alone at Glasto.

I'm still hoping that about Pumpkins/Cave too. Futile but would be delighted.

Would you see Pumpkins though? I seem to remember you were vocal about how shit they would be. Or was that in comparison to Cave?

I saw them at Wembley and they were really bad then too. Can't remember when it was, maybe 2000? Awful venue but even then it was bad. And I was young and less cynical then so I would have been more forgiving.

The only reason I'd see them at Glastonbury would be for nostalgia and a few choice songs. If they weren't clashing I'd be there no question. But I fear they'd disappoint.

In 94 rumours abounded that Nick Cave would be joining Johnny Cash as a special guest, They were both playing that weekend, at the time of those American Recordings, where Cash covered Nick Cave.

Special guest ended up being the Bishop of Bath & Wells inreoducing Johnny Cash. Bah!

I saw Smashing Pumpkins in Manchester in 2008.

Their set started thus:

Porcelina

Behold The Nightmare

Bring The Light

Tonight Tonight

Mayonaise

And it was magic.

And that's why, even though I have a lifesized cut-out of Nick Cave hanging on the wall (he's glaring at me as I type) - I'd be genuinely torn between the two.

It is the worst of all clashes.

Never underestimate the power of a Nick Cave on your wall though. Before I became a fan, I once rented a room for a month and the girl who normally lived there had a huge poster of him on her wall. He stared at me every night and I can't help but think he was trying to tell me something. I believe it sowed the seeds of a later obsession.

When the line-up first came out I said to myself I will most likely see the Pumpkins as I am going to see Cave in October. Have now decided I am 100% seeing Cave and The Seeds. I know Nick Cave will nail it but not sure how Pumpkins will do. I only really listen Siamese Dream and Melon Collie era material from them. Awful awful clash.

Had a quick look and couldn't see this posted so sorry if it already has. End of Jubilee Street is fucking epic.

Due to general popularity (this is not an argument about articstic quality)...Everyone knows..

The Editors will have a bigger crowd than PIL

The Vampire Weekend and Rita Ora will have a bigger crowd than Nick Cave

And (possibly, although a much closer call) The Smashing Pumpkins would have a bigger crowd (if headlining) than The XX

Glastonbury is the only festival that has strange choices in bands position on the bill..And I guess it's just one those things that make it what it is and unique and I guess I love them for it...

I guess they do it either because:

1. They promised band/ management a particulalr slot before booking another act

2. They just love the act

3. To share out crowd distribution

4. To just be a bit more random and keep an element of surprise to different audiences.

It is not because they have just got it wrong...

Jessie J had one of the biggest crowds I've ever seen (as I desperately tried to run away) at The Other Stage. Do you think that utter shite should be at the top of the bill? They very definitely like to shift the crowd about a bit so that is definitely one reason why they might not be in "crowd-size" order. It may also have something to do with the stages not being programmed by Radio 1 and Simon Cowell (take a bow, T in the Park '13!).
