You shouldn't be allowed at Glastonbury if you don't know any Beatles songs (discuss)

I doubt it's possible not to have heard Beatles songs (assuming you can hear), although you might not know that the songs were written by The Beatles.

They've been too big an influence on popular culture.

It's probably nigh on impossible i would bet to have never heard a single beatles song, either sung by them or by another artist.

Whether it's The Rolling Stones-I wanna be your man, Oasis with I am the walrus,U2,helter skelter,The Easy Star Allstars did Sgt peppers lonely hearts dub band a few years ago on the pyramid.,

They are in films,TV programmes and, live performances by the likes ofOasis,Foo Fighters,Aerosmith,Coldplay etc

Even Radio1&2 had the 50th anniversary of the recording of Please Please me a few weeks ago.

You will never be able to escape the Beatles

Not really. There was a Beatles song in the Olympic opening ceremony (which was watched by 27m), so that is basically half the country in one show. School curriculums use them a fair bit, or certainly did a few years ago when I was there. I think the vast majority would knowingly have heard a Beatles track even if they couldn't name one even if it is something like Yellow Submarine.

Well I would count Paul McCartney, (who is generally introduced as a member of the Beatles) as knowingly for most of that 27m... I would be fairly surprised if many watched it and didn't realise (I expect something was mentioned on commentary but can't be sure).

Also at school you do get told its the Beatles, quite a lot. Certainly amongst 20+ somethings they would be hard to escape I would think. Can't comment on younger as I don't know how curriculums/TV changed.

Of course there will be exceptions, there are some people you can't name the Presiden/Prime Minister! I am also not saying that those who don't know said things shouldn't be allowed into Glastonbury...

they're hardly ever in films or tv programmes..

or ads

more people will have not seen those bands (Oasis, etc) than have

the idea, that it's almost inconcievable for some people not to have ever (knowinlgy) heard a Beatles song, is just as much about the bubbles we exist in as much as anything else

like the idea that The Stones would be mad to not want to play our favourite festival.

I have to let off steam somewhere and this seems like the best place. A girl behind me at work has been moaning about going to see the Bootleg Beatles because they don't know any Beatles songs. Seriously. And she also said they were at Glasto when she went. How can this be? I am absolutely incredulous that people like that are going to the best festival in the world.

If I only achieve one thing in my life, it's to give good music taste to my daughter. I'm in shock.
