What To Do When The Music Stops?

Definately this,

It's all very well and good doing Shangri-La, which I highly reccomend anyone who is new to Glasto to at least spend one night there. But the best nights I've had have been where I've just been randomly wandering about in the Circus Fields, or down by the markets and just stopping when I see anything interesting.

Another thing to note is the sheer scale of the festival site. I'd look at a map of the place when it comes out on the official festival site. This way you can familiarize yourself with all the areas and how to get there. Mind you, getting 'lost' at Glastonbury always ends up in a good night out.

I've never lost my tent at Glasto at night but that's because we camp in the same area that we have been doing for years. I'm sure you're used to getting back to your tent at V so shouldn't have problems. Just in case though, I'd recommend triangulating your tent via objects that can be seen at night eg a lighting rig, set of toilets, a lock up etc. I did manage to get lost at Bestival this year and couldn't find my tent. Total nightmare.

Don't timetable much, after hours there's plenty of music but you need not concentrate to much on being in a certain place as seldom does it work out particularly with big crowds. We happen to stumble on a secret lady gaga show few years back by accident. Stood at front easily, 200 other punters at 1am at club dada in late night area

Glad you made this thread as I'm in the same boat. There was a big guide/website posted up back when the tickets went on sale but I don't know where that is.

I definitely want to check out Shangri-La and the sunset at the stones. Outside of that I think we'll do a lot of exploring the rest.

The starting point is make quite certain you know where you've parked your car and write it down. After five days memories get a bit fuzzy. I remember one year pushing my barrow back to the car park where I'd made a mental note that it was parked next to a big red van. Of course the van had already gone and I spent three hours wandering round and getting increasingly desperate before I finally found it.

Next get a good barrow or trolley. It's probably a couple of miles, often up and down steep hills, to where you'll set up camp and you'll want to make as few trips as possible.

After the music stops I like to get fucked up.:D

Always try to miss the headliners one night and go for a walk round Shangri La while it's relatively quiet and before the madness begins. Had a great night on the Thursday last year, went to the Snake Pit for a rave then staggered back to Pennards for a few cans then up to The Park for Baggy Mondays. God knows what ttime we staggered back.

Next year I want to visit more of the clubs in Shangri La and Block 9 and maybe go for a late night wander round the Green Fields.

At glasto the music doesn't have to stop until the sun is well up at 6am but you have to pace yourself to a degree. I normally get my head down between 3 and 4 and do one really late night - possibly including sunrise at the stone circle. Weigh it up against what you will miss the next day and how you might feel.

Check out clashfinder for an idea of who'll be on in the south east corner - it's fairly comprehensive and you can quickly find out with a web search who the special guests were - usually big name DJ's or acts from the main stages that were on earlier.

In 2011, I enjoyed orbital, Carl cox, fat boy slim, 808 state, arlo, Justin Robertson, Stanton warriors and many others there. Apart from strummerville it's mainly different types of dance music but you'll have a great time exploring the madness - 'Eat the moving things'

AiishottheDJ, you are thinking about this too much. There is really no need to worry that you'll be able to find your type of music. In fact it is almost counter productive at Glastonbury. Trust us all on this one...get there, go with the flow and let the whole thing wash over you. I'd actually go a little further and suggest that you don't find out too much about the festival. Of course it is good to be prepared, but please don't plan too much because that way you'll push yourself into a routine that you think that you want. There are so many options it is almost impossible to know what that is, partly because you have never experienced it.

Don't worry about what type of music might be playing somewhere, or which DJs are playing it, or if you've heard of them. None of this matters at Glasto. You may find something that you never thought you'd like, which you wouldn't have discovered if you have planned to be somewhere else.

I'm looking forward to hearing about how the festival was for you and what made you gasp with wonderment!

Hiya,

Yeh it is :) - nobody has noticed that yet! Thank you :) I'm really looking foward to it but I wasn't sure if there were places to go and dance afterwards etc. Now about to watch the Glastonbury After Hours, it looks good :D

P.S- For everybody else, not a troll but more of a rabbit in headlights coming from V where I am used to doing naff all after the music stops :)

Your only problem would be that... someone amazing is playing on the main stage, which means, you'll miss out on everything else thats going on the other side of the festival.

After a number of Glastos, I now no longer care who's headlining (unless they're a must see) & I'm more excited about whats going on elsewere, to me it's like it's 2 festivals in 1.

If you only do 1 festival a year, say goodbye to V. :D

My advice would be don't be overwhelmed. Yes, there's lots to do. Some of it will be to your taste, some of it won't. If you like what you're watching/listening to, stay; If you don't like it, move on. You won't be bored. You won't be going back to your bed to watch a crappy film unless that is what you feel like doing and, if it is, then you are free to do so.

Just allow yourself to wander.

You may, however, find people having sex in the back corner. Nowt anyone can do about that I'm afraid! Apart from a bucket of ice.

I think my greatest advice would be to stop worrying so much. Let yourself get there, let yourself (and your friends) get lost (but have a vague idea where your tent is - so treat the Brothers Cider with respect, see a post of mine in a different thread). But most of all don't try to compare the Glasto experience with anywhere else. It isn't like any other festival. It isn't even like real life unfortunately*. The world would be a better place if it was.

Really hope you can relax and enjoy it. x

Edit: *I mean I'd like real life to be more like Glastonbury

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
