I think it was 6pm last time I went, but we had the efests World Cup football match beforehand ('09), so that took a couple of hours or so. (My concept of time had already become rather vague even by then!).

And yes, Lucy was dutifully sticking nametags on everyone :)

I saw Lucy looking totally on a mission & standing on benches holding her clipboard up, but everyone else was in deep conversation, & I just felt like I'd be interrupting! I talk to random people all the time at Glastonbury, but not usually when they are already really animatedly talking to someone else. I was at the football the year before too! One day I will speak to you - maybe itll be next year!

The wristband idea is great, you should suggest it to Neil! smile.png

i

it's completely impractical I'm afraid - standard (non unique prints) wristbands cost far more than you might think, getting on towards a pound for each one. If they also had a person's unique name printed on each one they'd cost a fortune.

For those who've not been before, this is how it works:

  • For months before there are threads about it where everyone says it's a good idea but no-one wants to organise it

  • For the final month there will be lots of posts in which people ask where the cider bus is

  • This results in a lot of general exacerbation

  • This will be posted:

  • ciderbus017.jpg

  • Lucious Lucy will finally cave and agree to get things sorted.

  • She will then don a high vis waistcoat and begin barking orders.

  • On the day, lots of people will gather and talk shite while laughing inanely a lot

  • People on their own will stand on the side lines plucking up courage to join in

  • At this point, one of two things will happen.

  • 1 - they will bottle it, wander off and regret it

  • 2 - they will neck a dry cider, pluck up the courage, approach the hero in the jacket and proclaim "Are you Juicy Lucy?"

  • They will be given the skunk eye until she corrects them and asks there name.

  • There will be an awkward silence as they realise they are not really called BigKnobby1963

  • They will fess up to said stupid name and say call me Dave

  • It will be ace.

hehehe, that's brilliant gnomicide

I went last year, after lurking for the previous 3. Drank heavily all afternoon and then took the plunge. It was great, met some lovely people, called them all names and fell over. Hooray!

A couple more things will happen:

  • Snubles will fall in the mud.

  • This will happen 3 times

  • You will hear the following "Oohh. He's taller than I expected." This will be because Neil has just been pointed out to someone.

  • You will be buying a drink at the bus when you realise you are wearing a name tag that has you labeled as someone who kills inanimate garden ornaments. You will feel a little foolish.

  • At some point you will feel very wobbly. You must either:

  • 1 - Drink through it

  • 2 - Retire to your tent

  • Option 2 is for wusses.

  • I am a wuss.

  • You will meet The Boilerman who will turn out not to be a serial killer.

  • You will start planning how you are going to tackle the next one. This is because you will have real world mates in tow this year and telling them that these are people you know off the internet is, well... a little awkward.

  • Every one you meet will be great.

Aww man you guys make the meets sound great!! I'm too much of a shite bag to go... Plus not sure I'd be able to explain to hubby what I was up to, he already thinks I'm quite sad lurking on this forum! ... I've been lurking for so long I recognise the regulars names, but I rarely post so don't make an impact to be recognised myself!
