Back in the period leading up to 2009/10; did the festival just gradually sell out quicker until it was selling out on announcement day?

Can't remember, to be honest before I started using this site I paid absolutly no interest in how quickly or whether it sold out from year to year. FML.

That's fair but wouldn't you have found out by the changing circumstances of getting tickets every year?

Probably, but I don't remember. For a few years in that period I used to get my ticket from the box office the day before anyway (the ones that were released for local residents), so when it sold out to the general public would probably have been lost on me. I just remember one year everything suddenly going mental and the casual wander up to the site the day before was replaced by thousands and thousands of people coming from all over to get a ticket, and then deciding I should probably start to get a ticket on the day of release.

Ah okay. That sounds like a cool deal. I didn't know Reading did that.

In 2004 the festival sold out a month or so before the weekend, 2005 sold out in under a week of tickets being made available, 2006 sold out in two hours, 2007 looks to have sold out in a couple of days and 08-10 were instant sell-outs

Oh I see. I was (boringly) wondering if the sellouts becoming gradually quicker since it reset in 2011 was something you could foresee but probably isn't.

Yeah I think it ended the year that people from outside the area cottoned on and dogpiled down to try and get one even when it was 'sold out'. Then they introduced the proper residents ticket that you could buy before/alongside the general sale if you had a local post code.

I reckon if they get some big reunion in the next few years it may happen, but I don't think it's the kind of event many bands would want to reunite at any more

When will they release stage times and when will the introducing stage line up be announced?

stage times will be released the week of the festival - could well be the wednesday/thursday even, it has been in the past. BBC Intro will be announced soon I imagine so keep your eyes peeled cause it will be any day now :)

Yo off topic but does anyone know how long headliners play for at Tramlines? I wanna go for The Cribs but I'll only see them and maybe like one other act so I dunno if it'll be worth it.

The clashfinder is up now on the website mate but it really weird the times (Public Enemy come at 5). But I think headliners get around an hour.

    • Yep, honestly this seems like the most likely option right now.
    • Agree. Also there was a lot more crossing over between stages. I know they need to put the cure, the xx and Gorillaz on the main stages but if they could have put your Blood Orange, Big Thief, Baxter Dury on Cupra and Occident with Jade and Pinkpantheress on the main stages, it would have been a massive improvement.
    • 100% THIS! I haven't quite been able to put my finger on it, but I think you've just nailed why I didn't enjoy this year as much as usual. In last years edition, the likes of Slowdive or Big Thief would have had evening slots at Cupra or Occident, instead of being shoved on to the main stages during the day. Apart from the very biggest acts (ie The Cure, the pop headliners), most performances at Mordor just lack that special "wow, I'm so lucky to be here" feeling that I remember from the Jesus Lizard and Anhoni sets that you've mentioned.  Sidenote: I wonder if there's a decent chunk of ticket holders that gravitate towards Mordor simply because it's the biggest stage, without really caring who's playing at that time, thus the increased (and incredibly noticeable) yapping.
    • Some horrible talkers around me as well for that one. Plus the mobile beer taps pressing through almost all the way to the front, which really should be illegal.
    • 1. Kevin Morby - Little Wide Open  2. feeble little horse - bitknot 3. Genesis Owusu - Redstar Wu and the Worldwide Scourge    Decent month though - Kurt Vile and Ed O'Brien would have been top 3 most months
