Lineup 2014

Know what you guys mean, this is my first time this year but quite a few of those who I'm going with, to be blunt, have little to no interest in music outside of what's fed to them. For example, a load of them went to see Arctics and I asked them how Royal Blood were: all I got was boring, too heavy, samey etc. I know it's opinions and everything so just go to the bands you want to see; that's my plan anyway!

Take a brother who doesn't have time to listen to new acts and tell him all the ones you wanna see are the best.

Pr just go off alone, I'm planning on doing that at Glasto.

I wish I could tell my brother that but he'll just go "probably one of your shitty hardcore bands" and try to get me to one of his crap indie bands

Really? But they'll probably listen to AM......anyway Royal Blood aren't that heavy compared to a lot of bands on the line up

Last year I loads of acts by my self and while waiting around is boring, when acts are playing you don't tend to give a shit. Why let your friends ruin your festival? Also when I told my mates to meet up for an acts they wouldn't show up so I gave up and just saw who I wanted to and had a great time. I've even been to gigs on my own and they have been great.

I suspect that this year is going to be the same for me as I'll be alone all the time expect and night where you need to be with your mates to have fun. It is also more fun when you bump into them in a crowd

Yeah I'll probably be like this for a lot of the festival... a couple of my group have alright taste but most of them will be at the dance stage or seeing shit like Imagine Dragons and Macklemore so I'll be spending a lot of time solo.

I know the feeling, unless it's on the dance stage and you can hum a tune they've heard in a nightclub theres no chance in persuading.

Yup yup yup, my exact problem. Or what radio one have playlisted, there's no chance... they won't even attempt to look outside it. If it's not on the radio in some sort it's almost like they assume it is shit.

Well it's good to know this is a shared problem

I'l see headliners with them and stuff, but I remember in 2012 most of the group sat at their campsite till kaiser chiefs! I actually had to leave because I felt the worth of my ticket purchase decreasing by the second!

First time?

You will be llike most people...wither your group will come qith your or alternativly you go alone (like lots of people) just get talking to the people around you while waiting... Its hard to imagine but seriously at a festival everyone is up for a chat and you will make new marras easily!

Anyway back to revision... Just saw the line up :D class!

My mates did this last year most days. Only going into the arena about half way through the day. The only time I didn't go in at 12 was the last day as I couldn't be arsed

I brought like 10 friends to see Rolo Tomassi at Truck last year and by the 3rd song I was soloing it

I'd see Rolo Tomassi with you anyday

In 2010, i spent the entire Sunday on my own. All of my friends who were there that year loved all of the mainstage acts. I couldnt stand them and the NME lineup was basically made for me then. Had a blast. Made friends with a couple people doing the same thing early on in the day, and we hung out for the rest of the day. I still meet up eith them at Reading each year now! You see your friends all year anyway so go see who you paid to see and meet up with them when your interests happen to align. :)

Been 3 times (2011, 2012, 2013)

First two years, I saw tonnes of acts on my own as the group I went with just acted like idiots and saw about 2 acts a day if that. When I did see the odd act with them they would either act stupid or just stand there arms folded looking weirdly at anyone who sang a long.

Last year I went with a different group, saw most acts with them but again a few on my own.

If there are people you wanna see go see them whether on your own or not, you paid for the festival not for a camping holiday.

I want to start a discussion

How do you deal with those shit friends of yours which just want to stay at the campsite all day, leading you to have to leave the group to go and see your savages/crosses on your own.

Do you tend to go with the crowd, or have the internal locus of control and venture out and see bands alone? Looks like i'm going to be doing alot of that this year, not sure if I mind that much.

Damn you efestivals for getting me into obscure (but great bands). Doomed to going to the festival with people who won't come and see royal blood / drenge etc because they've never heard of them.

i just go see whoever i feel like, just when youre bored be open to talking to someone near you, its always good to chat to randomers while waiting for a band you both like.

actually quite impressed with the lineup this year in the end.

If everyone thinks their friends are bad, my mates didn't see System Of A Down because "it was too cold......"

That is the worst excuse not to see any band ever, some of them were going on about System for ages even saying they should be headlining not Biffy. One of my mates said he wanted to go but no one went with him so he stayed.....great pals I have

Luckily i'm going with a group of 20 ish people with lots of variation in taste, so i'm pretty sure that there will always be someone else in the crowd with me. Not that it really matters, I tend to find that in a lively crowd (especially in the tents during the evenings) everyone gets split up anyway.

I went to see BMTH last year and I bumped into someone I knew so I went in with him and then I lost him a few minuets later. That was the only contact I had with any of my mates during any acts on the Saturday

Pretty similar for me aha, walked into system with three others and lost them within minutes before finding myself stuck next to a guy in the most authentic jimmy saville costume i've ever seen..

There was also someone who dragged me into the front for Green Day, lost him after 2 songs then I just said fuck it and moved further back. (I lied about the BMTH incident being the only interaction I had with my mates on the Saturday)

Just go see whoever you want to see. The first year I went I stuck with friends all the way but ever since I've done a high majority of sets solo and couldn't care less!

That's the way to do it for sure.
