Lineup 2014

There seems to be two this year, usually it's the Friday at Reading but both are. Plus Vampire Weekend and Macklemore.

Just like how there is usually at least one headliner who plays a longer set than the usual 90 minutes.

There is usually, but there doesn't have to be

Didn't Arctic Monkeys play two hours at Finsbury Park? They can certainly fill the longer slot headliner role I think, they're that size of band now.

I do think QOTSA will get 90 minutes at Reading and an hour or so at Leeds, and vice versa for Paramore. I recall people thinking Pulp and The Strokes would both equally get 90 minutes in 2011 but it didn't happen.

Yes but in 2011 both bands played the same length set at each site. So it wasn't the case that the co-headliner got a longer set at the site they were headlining (eg. Pulp at Leeds), it was just that Pulp got given a 90 minute set and The Strokes a 75 minute set.

I imagine both will get 90 mins this year, but even if there's any variation on that, they will each play the same length set at bith sites.

Perhaps The Strokes got given a 90 minute slot but didn't have enough good material to cover a full set so brought it down to 75 minutes just so people wouldn't have a full hour and a half of being bored shitless? Just a thought...

How do you explian Biffy getting so long though?

Even if you don't like Biffy, at least the crowd were enjoying it! I've never been in a crowd so dead and lifeless for a headline act as I have been at The Strokes in 11'.

Only stayed because my friends wanted to and as it was my first festival, I didn't feel like going off solo. Biggest mistake I've ever done at Reading.

Who was on at the same time? The Midnight Beast?

"Heavy Sunday"

"Longer headliner"

You tend to perpetuate a lot of the stupid ideas of trends basically.

For the record I've never said there is a "heavy Sunday", but that there is always one day on the Main Stage, sometimes two, that tends to lean towards heavier bands. I'm not sure how you can dispute that.

And I'm also not sure how you can dispute that there is one headliner who gets a longer set than the others every year. Why don't you have a look at previous Clashfinders?

Either way, on a forum discussing a line-up for a festival, you can't really say that my objective comments regarding the line-up aren't worthwhile. They're more worthwhile than the tediously smarmy posts by you and Mrtourette anyway.

"Heavier" is both subjective and guaranteed. Of course there's going to be one day that's comparatively heavier than the others.

There isn't always one who does. Often there is, sometimes there's multiple, sometimes there's none.

My point is more that they've not objective and are just cheesy perceived patterns that people like to try and follow.

They wouldn't do that and if they did I think there would be some people that would be pissed off by it

Well that's what I meant. 'Heavier', not 'heavy'. You get acts like Frank Turner who aren't "heavy" but kinda fit in on that day.

And I think there always is. Green Day in 2013, Foo Fighters in 2012, Muse in 2011, Guns N' Roses in 2010, Radiohead in 2009, Metallica in 2008, RHCP in 2007 and so on.

They're not cheesy patterns, they occur every year.

Biffy also had a 2 hour set.

The Cure had 2h30, and spent longer on stage than Foos did.

GnR didn't get that much longer.

The pattern is that they typically agree to the request of headliners if they want a longer set. It's unlikely Arctics will request this.

    • wombats have been doing that and selling quite well, couple of really strong support acts could make it work.
    • Yes. September still a very long away, keep the faith.
    • With Di Artze doing Nova Rock next year, if Foos are there too I think that puts pay to SOAD. I would think they would get SOAD if they could rather than Di Arte again 3 years later.
