When have Foo's had a issue selling out before though from touring loads? They played two big outdoor MK very quick sell out shows and an NME big gig show, they hadn't been here for a few years. And those MK shows were the last time they would be in the Uk till R&L this year.

It was a sad day a bit for the fest when they lost the point of being able to sell out quick, R&L until last year, pretty much was a scramble sell out, when last it became not, it's not the R&L that was SHITTTT I've got a ticket!!! It's now, based on last year, we have MCR, The Strokes/Pulp and Muse - we'll get a ticket in a weeks time or so. Then you have The Cure, Kasabian and Foo Fighters, shit loads wanted Foo's back, The Cure overall won the poll on here for like/wanted, rare shows and only UK one this year, Kasabian I think a bit less so but fairplay loads still want them and the sad thing is that V Festival is selling better and at not a lot less and only over two days. plus they don't have a deposit scheme, this is an issue too, I can't see a problem really in enough people who wanted to go finding £60 for a deposit.

So know, I think the HRC's etc are much more for Pearl Jam - Bruce there, Macca there, The Killers even there, says it all.

90 quid for a day ticket might have something to do with it, I know I wouldnt pay that for a day ticket even if radiohead and bjork played. Thats one of the reasons I bought a weekend ticket really, if the cure didnt play I wouldnt be going but its not really worth ticket, travelling, spends, hotel just for one day and I might aswel get a weekend ticket. I suppose other people feel the same, especially as its a younger crowd and have less disposable income, dont drive etc etc. Also remember there were coach/ticket travel to mk last year and there wont be for day tickets to r&l.

When i first started going to Leeds, it never used to sell out quickly, if at all, and there were some awesome lineups back then (for me anyway). It was only when festivals became 'trendy' that the instant sellouts started, and they were never going to last (price increases, changes in fads etc) and i don't think those days will return anytime soon. I'd just hate to think that R+L were starting to turn their back on the likes of Pearl Jam in favour of the more 'hyped' NME type bands

I didn't know the day ticket price but you say that might have something to do with it, yet reading sunday has sold out at 90. another 120 over a period of time would've got a weekend ticket with thursday entry. so the ability to pay 60 quid and save over the months for each next bit. the way i see it is, the travel to get there and back is them same surely for a day in cost as the weekend?, like when you buy a car park pass at reading, same as a weekend.

The more hype sells tickets though bud. I like The Vaccines but 3rd? Bombay 3rd?

I started going in 2006, I'll be honest, untill by sister has been in 2005, I didn't bloody know about R&L really lol, but my music listening to mostly was different back then, I was 18, and being 18 6 years ago is much different now lol. And I always felt the need to get on the net for a ticket, 08 was stupidly quick and we ended up coaching it down to reading and getting a lift back with my sister just so we could go like or we would've missed out. There is 100% no reason at all to get a weekend pre.sale ticket for next year after this years a sit won't be a quick sell.

Lets put it in simple terms for me example.

If I got a day ticket.

90 quid - ticket

60 quid - hotel approx

40 quid - travel

= 190 quid

weekend ticket

210 quid - ticket

40 quid - travel

0 - tent

So for me its much better value for a weekend ticket.

I'm not saying the more 'hyped' bands don't help sell tickets (though they are hardly proving it this year), what i am saying is it's be a sad day for the festival if they have to rely on the 'hyped up' NME type bands to try and sell tickets at the expense of bands like Pearl Jam. Maybe if they just split up for a few years......

I think Weezer need to be booked next year. I saw them at Leeds '10 and Soni '11, and the Leeds show was just incredible, I don't know anyone who saw it who hasn't said its the best live show they've seen. If they do get booked, I'd love for them to be bumped up to subbing, they'd do a cracking job.

You seem obsessed with a quick sell out, it was never going to happen look at festival trends in the lasy 2 years. Reading and leeds was always going to be the first to struggle with the way festivals are selling now, government increases in tuition fees etc etc.

Look at download they have a stellar lineup for there market and still cant sell out.

    • Really well done, Primavera. Maybe the biggest name on the lineup as a surprise. (Ecpecially if Robert joins this)
    • There's one way it can get bigger- if Robert Smith joins her on stage
