Bands avoid Sheffield like the plague. Bastards. I was supposed to go to Sheffield open day today, but had to go pick my brother up from uni in Norwich. Plus I want to get as far away from home as possible, so Sheffield isn't ideal. :P

What's wrong with Uni of Brighton eh?

Also Sheffield's got a very niche/bassline scene if you want to go out clubbing, rather than gigs, you get some decent bands at Sheff o2 occasionally though, Echo & the Bunnymen played very recently

Leeds has a good gigging scene for the smaller bands, but loses out to Manchester on ALL arena sized acts (hopefully will change soon though) and anyone doing smaller tours (most international bands that aren't working their asses off basically).

Because I've never lived anywhere else though I probably don't appreciate what's there. O2, Cockpit, Brudenell and Uni venues has almost everyone covered, leeds arena will sort out the almost

Yeah but I imagine Manchester to just be a city full of dullards walking around talking about how the Gallaghers are the greatest thing to happen to music.

Edit: This isn't serious before anyone gets offended. Just based on seemingly every teenager from Manchester I see on Twitter or whatever.

Also, despite what I said earlier about bands avoiding Sheffield, it does actually get a fair amount of good gigs, and The Leadmill's great. I just get pissed off with all the bands that play only London, Birmingham and Manchester. Usually the rarer bands too.

Im at sheffield uni and have always had plenty of gigs to go to. Lots of decent bands all over the place, and tramlines in the summer is absolutely fantastic!

Its really easy to get to leeds and manchester, with late night trains so you dont have to find a place to stay overnight.

Definitely recommend Sheffield, despite what some people on here might say!

I moved to Manchester solely because I was sick of getting the train their everytime I wanted a gig.

imo it's the greatest city in the world for music and everybody tours here. The only problem is the people, I find a lottttttt of people who still modelling themselves on Noel and Liam Gallagher 20 years later and make them look like nice guys.

If you want to go north and you want music, go to Manchester, 99% of bands will play a gig on their tour there
