Sad but true for ticket buying market, but lets be honest portishead are miles ahead of muse. Muse need to come back when they come up with an album of utter beauty of dummy.

On record absolutely agreed. Dummy is an amazing album. I really liked Third though, I was expecting to be disappointed, but while it's not as good as Dummy, it's far better than their S/T and has some great songs on there. They were stunning at IBYM last year as well.

I was going on live shows though, saw Muse soon after Absolution was released and that was a stunning performance, even better than Portishead were. Seen them 3 times since and they've lost something live.

Muse 2004 was fantastic, i think the set list helped and they were less OTT. I still think they are great live (better than on CD) now but i wish they would go back to a more stripped down performance now and then (Royal Albert Hall was brilliant in an intimate environment) IMO

Cant comment on Portishead though aint seen them yet.

Better than CD doesn't mean great. The setlist definitely helped, but I think they're now a solid, rather than a stunning, top quality live band.

Id agree with that based on the fact that I havent been blown away the last few times ive seen them. Maybe thats due to seeing them too much. I'd be interested to know what someone thought of them live, having only seen them once recently.

Despite having only seen Muse since 2009, their live shows are clearly not as good as in earlier years. Which I really think is just down to it being too polished and over-produced, as opposed to them becoming worse performers.

I haven't seen a truly great Muse show in years, the main reason for me are the set lists.

Muse's setlists are absolutely dire now, to be fair. It's a good job they did Origin last year or it would have probably just been the same 20 songs they play every time

That aside, Talking Heads have had the greatest influence on the music since of any band for the last 35 years.

Although I think some of the points made a kind of very loose. I would also back up Sonic Youth as one of the most influential bands. and best.

But yes, Sonic Youth have had a huge influence, and are awesome.
