So some people are arguing that having a hip hop/rap headliner would go against the roots of Reading, whilst others are arguing that it's been too long since we've had one which means it won't happen again? I think it's fair to say that none of us actually know what the current situation is & whether given the chance they'd book Dre & Snoop or Kanye & Jay-Z to headline.

Everyone said The Cure would instantly sell out their day but they haven't, many people have said in the past that Kanye or Jay Z (or both) would sell out but that balatantly isn't true, given that Kanye failed to sell tickets for The Big Chill and Jay Z headlined in the year Glasto nearly failed to sell out. Again those were down to more than just those two headlining but there's never the instant ticket sell out that people predict with these guys, and it would bre the same with Dre/Snoop.

Yeah maybe I exagerrated slightly when I said everyone, but there were a number of people who said they would. The counter argument at the time was that Bestival took a while to sell out so why would R&L be any different.

So you want to see any hip-hop rather than hip-hop you're actually a fan of? That's a bad idea of various levels, it's like saying I want to see guitar music so I lump Metallica & Coldplay as the same thing and probably end up seeing a crap artist rather than a good one.

How is your last point there relevant? I'm perfectly aware of who Jay-Z and Dre are. And I don't have "no clue" about it, I know music by both of them, I actually used to be a fan of each.

By saying I wasn't really into hip-hop I was really just backing up my point about not paying to see them at their own show, but being happy to see them at a festival where I'm paying for lots of other acts I really like.

Not really as you are asking for any rap as opposed to decent rap. I've seen Odd Future, Dizzee Rascal, Lethal Bizzle, Jurassic 5 etc at Reading and thought they were great whilst also seeing Jay Z, Snoop, Abominal and a few others at their own shows but if say Tenie Tempah, Kayne West, Wiley or 50 Cent I would be moaning they are shit. I find asking for anyone will do from a genre rather than a specific artist takes it's as some kind of novelty act rather than actual musicians and it could be questioned of what kind of a draw they would be if their own fans aren't even willing to go their own shows.

Get Jay-Z and/or Kanye or Dre & Snoop, or Eminem headlining, then some of KRS-One, DMX, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, Slum Village, Ice Cube playing lower down. Or Nas! Nas would be sick...And maybe a few of Bashy, BBK (or Skepta or JME on their own), Lethal Bizzle, Akala, playing some of the other stages, Bam! There's your Hip-Hop quota sorted.
