I think what most bothers me about Ing-Gur-Land supporters is their insistence that we have to hate virtually every other national football team. The idea that we have to hate Argentina because of the Falklands + Maradona, the idea that we have to hate Germany because of WW2 and various penalty shoot-outs. I'll dislike the teams that are pissing me off at the time, just like I do with clubs except Sunderland.

The other thing about my struggling to support England, is the arrogance associated with the team. Players and fans.

Woy's clearly the best qualified English manager. Hiddink would have been my overall preferred choice, followed by O'Neill, but it looked certain to be someone English, and there's only 3 premier league options there, with Woy the only one with experience in international management. I'm impressed with the FA for not letting the media dictate the choice this time.

Didn't the FA cup always used to be the weekend after the top division had finished? Think its a shame they've moved it. (although I think its more to do with the league being drawn out rather than the FA cup date being moved). It now just gets lost amongst the title race. I liked having it as the pinacle to the football season. And its a 17:15 kick off as well?? That's a new one isn't it.

he's even started.

Press were straight in Roy I noticed, asking questions about him playing in apartheid-era South Africa. He didn't look very comfortable

Pre premier league it used to be "The Game" of the season, there wasnt much live football in them days when I was growing up. Used to be a national event where everyone used to watch it and bbc and itv shred it and did the build up from breakfast time all the way to kick of. Fa cup has been spoilt by the premier league and the teams certain clubs play in it. Also man utd have gone a long way of destroying the fa cup by pulling out in 2000 to play in the world club tin cup, im very defensive over man utd but that was an absolute disgrace pulling out of the fa cup and they should of had a big ban from it and I dony buy the government involvment in the reasoning.

Will I watch it? probably but a fair few years ago it would be to cancel everything, now its like another game on tv. IM more interested in seeing bolton v spurs on wednesday.

Yep totally agree.

England supporters are usually those from the lower leagues and its there bit of glamour. Personally im not very patriotic and dont really care if they win and certainly dont get excited if they score.

Going to be a total nightmare at rock werchter again this year, the dutch and germans were loving us english being shit and were all in a party mood. Great great people the dutch, they qualified for the world cup final when we were there in 2010.

Can see it being the same this year aswel.

Not even pre-Prem days. Even as short a time ago as 10 years ago it was the game that matterred, everyone I knew watched it, often the pre-match build-up, etc. etc.

This year... I'll watch it if I've got nowt else to do, and I probably won't be free on time for kick-off. The FA Cup has lost its glamour in the later stages. I still find it very exciting around 3rd-5th round though.

Another disgrace about the fa cup is the allocation the fans get, I think liverpool get 25,000 tickets. Where the carling cup the teams get more or less half each. All the rest of the tickets go to other clubs and the various fa counties/members etc etc.

Its funny listening to the guardian journalists on the podcast, they all lined up behind Hodgson. Its funny that they pretty much always take the opposite view to the other papers on football, probably why I think they talk so much sense. Favourtie quote "its a disgrace comparing Arry to Clough, Clough never won the FA cup!".
